Tom Hanks---model airplane, WW II buff

Post by dragon53 » Tue Jan 01, 2008 3:08 pm

I once read an interview with Rita Wilson, Mrs. Tom Hanks, in which she said when Hanks was a kid, he was a model airplane maniac. Since most model maniacs don't really outgrow it and now that he's a multi-millionaire and still a World War II maniac, I wonder what type of replicas he might have. Since he's very busy as a n actor and producer (including the Pacific Theater companion to BAND OF BROTHERS), he probably doesn't have time to make models, but may buy replicas instead.

I know he keeps weapons replicas from SAVING PRIVATE RYAN and BAND OF BROTHERS. When Congressman Charlie Wilson (of CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR) was having health problems, Hanks sent him the binoculars he used in SAVING PRIVATE RYAN as a get-well gift.

It would be ironic if he looks at SSHQ...or even posts here.

Mrs. Rita, happy New Year to you, too!

On the other hand I was also a kid and I was also a plane model maniac, so...

Since he's richer than most third-world countries, I wouldn't be surprised if he collects those $3,000+plus 1/18 full-detailed models in Europe (forgot where those were made).

And he can even hire a model master to create a scratch-built masterpiece for him.

Damn, it's awesome to be rich... :D

But with being rich and powerful comes responsibility...
I don't think we would have seen "Band of Brothers", "From the Earth to the Moon", "Bussom Buddies", or the upcoming Pacific "Band of Brothers" without Mr. Hanks' involvement...

Dragon, you have unmasked me. Please forgive me for the subterfuge as I didn't want to cause a stir.

How about all of you coming over to the Hank's castle for some Johnny Walker Green and cigars? Cubans, rolled on the thighs of Havana virgins.

Just kidding! :D

I'd like to accept your invitation, but isn't "Havana virgins" an oxymoron?

And how do you know I........ahem.....Tom Hanks...yea that's it...Tom Hanks, isn't into 1/6. With more money than...well, you know who,....I would think Tom Hanks would be into some of the RC museum pieces being built in the UK at 10grand or more a pop.

Who wouldn't like a few 1/6 Tigers, Shermans or their new White halftracks........or their big Famo pulling a 88mm around....with enough room to park the beasts and a few lackies around to operate all your toys. Boy, it would be nice...

There's one Britt with his own German 1/6 train, loaded with German equipment even his own rail gun with it's own garage.......boy all you need is money.

Maybe a few 1/6 RC fighters or bombers around to blow the s--t out of some of those expensive toys.

I gotta go buy some extra Lotto tickets.......you never know. 8)

I don't know, usually they come from the hospital that way. How long they last, who can say?

Just wanted to chime in with the location of the European custom 1/18 planes, because all collectors on this site need to see these if they haven't yet.

http://www.stateofartmodels.co.uk/

check out their photo gallery. it is amazing.

By the way.....
