Ouch! How disappointing from the seller's perspective. That aircraft is far more valuable than that. Someone got a steal of a deal and eBay/Paypal made all the money.

I won an RAF p-40 from the same guy for the same amount. Now isn't that a little peculiar.

I guess it depends how you spin it.
For instance, the buyer didn't have to shell out $200. He was patient and he found a good deal.
On the other hand, the seller's 1st mistake was listing it @ $39.99... well under what it's worth.
He should have done a little more research before listing it.
I would have listed it for no lower than $100.
No disrespect intended, but I would have to disagree with you that eBay & Paypal made all of the money.

To list his auction @ $39.99: $1
Additional pic: $0.15
Final Value fee @ $62.00: $3.49
Total eBay fees: $4.64
The seller pockets: $57.36 (92% of the final sale)
Paypal is a different animal.
It depends if your account is listed to a bank account or credit card.
Again, it's all how you spin it.

There seems to be some very good deals on EBAY for the rare 21st stuff lately. I've watched an auction for an F-18 sell for under $150 brand new in the box! Digger mentioned that an ambush panther went for $70. So I guess if you're looking for the rarer 21st items, check back on EBAY. You might get lucky!

Yes there are some good deals to be had on ebay. You just have to be willing to let a lot of stuff go by before you find the right deal.
I'm still waiting for the $20 PH zero.

Yeah, I have been looking for the Huey Hoghead for over a year and they often went for high $100 even over $200 on occassion. I got one a few weeks ago for $68 plus $15 shipping. It was one of those that had a weird closing time and don't think it came up when searching for 1/18 Ultimate soldier. Can't remember how I found it but glad I did.

I do a fair amount of selling on ebay, not just models either, a variety of stuff, and times are tight right now, buyers are fewer, people are hanging on to their money, and those that do bid and/or buy are spending less, or passing up on the item altogether, it's an entirely different climate than it was even just six months ago. It's hard to describe, but people's reluctance to spend right now is almost palpable.
