Small Scale Military Headquarters

This may seem like a silly question

I am thinning out my collection a little lately, and have been selling off some items on ebay. I have 2 or 3 1/18 planes I would like to sell but I have been unable to locate a source for boxes of the right shape and size. Anyone have a good cheap source?

2 postal Priority boxes work fine. I am not sure of the cost.

I have not seen any of the Priority boxes that would be large enough. Are you meaning to attach two of them together to make one box?

I take 2 copier paper boxes and combine them into one box.
My boxed planes usually fit fine and I tape it up really good around the box to insure it will travel well.
PM me if you specific instructions to combine the 2 boxes.

What do you use for shipping? USPS kicks my butt everytime I ship something and UPS doesn't do much better.

I use USPS and have no problems.

Shipping a 1/18 plane used to cost around $15-18 before the new rate hike, now, anything over 1 cubic foot gets hit with a size charge. The last box I shipped to PA ( and it wasn't near as big as a 1/18 box) cost me $25!

I usually ship USPS and keep the box size as close to the item size as possible. I will carve up and make the box as small as possible and still have room for protecting the goods. I haven't shipped with Fedex, but I was told that in the lower 48 that they usually come in better than UPS in cost. I don't know how they compare to the USPS. As a rule of thumb, I ship USPS up to 12 lbs and UPS, etc over 12 lbs. No matter how you ship the costs have really gone up this year. Just like all other goods or services, it will be something we have to get used to.

Best boxes:

Go to any of your local florist shops and ask for the boxes that long flowers get shipped in. They're just the right width all around to wrap around an XD airplane box. They're usually a little too long, but you can cut the end off and shorten down the box to be just the right length. Best of all, they're free!!! Florist shops don't keep these. They usually ship them back to the flower supplier/grower. Another great thing, they're triple walled. Super strong and coated with wax, thereby water resistant cardboard.

I usually find boxes at WM and if needed combine two boxes to make a box that fits the plane with very minimal space around the item to prevent movement during transit.

USPS parcel post is the only way to go

I will have to try the florist shop angle! It sounds as though most everyone combines more than one box. Thanks, guys!

Do you ship parcel post or priority?
Priority does NOT have a size charge (unless it's an OVERSIZE box)

Ive found regardless of the size priority is always much more - and sometimes the regular parcel post will arrive a day earlier or only one day after the priority items - I while back i tried this by sending figures in seperate packages to the same person using both. One post office worker once told me they were all put in the same trucks - I'm not really sure about that but who knows.

also has anyone used shipping stores - there is one not too far from my house that advertises cheap shipping for ebay items. I may try them with my next aircraft or boxed tank.
