tmanthegreat wrote:Jumping in here a bit late, but the auction idea is interesting. I once participated remotely in a live auction for a 21c 1:6 R/C M5 Stuart tank that was MIB. It was an interesting experience, similar to eBay in some respects, but different. Through the online system, I basically put down my highest price and let things go from there. My high price ($200) was reasonable given for what the same item in the same condition was going for on Ebay - and I wound up winning the auction, despite there being 10 or so other bidders that didn't reach my price 8)

My only concern would be how it would be regulated here. I mean, would it just be a free-for-all starting at one price and going up from there in sort of a bidding war or could someone simply come in and plant a high price that no one eventually decides to exceed? Like sy PH listed a 1:18 P-51 for $50 and I put down $200. Would the buyer then be responsible for that high price they put down or would it go for the next lowest price, as like on ebay?

I am thinking like a real auction.

What you say is what you pay.

Well I am doing this to be fun. If I want e-bay pricing I will put them up on e-bay.

Which I probably will do for the rarer pieces.

I know what these things are worth

All the versions of Spitfires are worth about 3 times that of $39.94 Walmart prices.

So those will probably not be on my " live auction " block.
It remains a nice idea and + for this forum, but lots of script-time making for making this possible. I think auctions on this forum will be too complicated, but kudos to you if you succeed. 8)

I think its a good idea, I think it may make some people mad at eachother on here. My only concern is that since we can all pm eachother members can fix the price low and screw mathew, which I dont like. If one guy wins, the one that was just behind him can pm him and buy it for a dollar more, a dollar that should have gone to mathew. I would still like to see what you do with it mathew, give a heads up though before it begins so I can be sure to log on and place my bid.

I think the guys on this forum would probably not do this .

But this not my first trip around the turnip patch.

Anything is possible. I hope this works out .

I have a few things that I will start off the bidding with NIB .

I also Have TONS and TONS of stuff out of box that I am wanting to put up for bid in Auction II , if Auction I is a success.

Overall it looks like this could be a positive thing.

That being the case. I think that for the things I am auctioning off . Should each have their own post ? Because things could get confusing.

Sunday is quickly approaching . Should I post some pics now or just wait until then ?

I would make a post for each item to avoid confusion.

Here is a list of my Auction I posts.

1/18 21st Checker nose Mustang--------- NIB
1/18 BBI Killer Mustang--------------------NIB
1/18 BBI white Zero------------------------NIB
1/18 21st Desert 109----------------------NIM
1/18 ORIGINAL Pappy Boyington Corsair----Out of box
1/18 21st Spinach 109---------------------Out of box
1/18 BBI Desert 109-------------------------Out of box
1/18 21st P-38 Haleanka ( spell ? )--------Out of box

1/32 full collection of Machi fighters -------NIB Most of them anyway.
1/32 Jagdtiger 21st--------------------------NIB
1/32 21st Bumbar----------------------------NIB

I think that is enough for now. I have all of the boxes for the "out of box " but they are up in the attic and I will probably not include them with the auction.

I am thinking of selling the collection of the Machi fighters as a bundle or should I sell them individually ?

There is some rare birds in this auction and some common ones so hopefully there will be interest.

I have possibly hundreds more of XD that just could possibly go up for sale. Probably enough to fill up 2 pick up truck fulls .

FULL PICK UP TRUCKS .

If anybody wants to come down and buy the whole lot come on down .

By no means I am getting out of the hobby it is just I have too much stuff.

My studio ( I am starting to call it that now ) It sounds better than work shed
Is getting to the point were I can not walk in it anymore. I have stuff piled on top of stuff and it is not displayed just stacked in boxes .

When I got the F-14 ( spot) and the Dauntless I never even took them out of there shipping boxes and most of my stuff is like that thrust into the attic of my studio.

So why keep it and not play with it.

So I am getting rid of it.

These items should be going up tonight and if I have time to do maybe a few more who knows.

Keep one of those 1/32 Machi's so you can make me a 1/18 one someday

To be clear, do you mean a 24hr auction? starts tonight and ends tomorrow night? or do you mean it will end Sunday of next week??

Sounds good deal to me. I hope there's no eBay type snipers, I hate those 2 Seconds left and you get outbid by a few cents. But I do see something I already want.

Shipping will be about $8-$10 on the small items and about $16-$18 on the large items.

I do not pull out the landing gear on my planes ( so they do not break ) so all of the pics show the gear up. Except the Pappy Corsair.

I will accept paypal and money orders.

Please do not bid if you do not intend to pay !!!!

Things look pretty good so far even a couple of bump bids.

So far it looks like there is no love for the Big Beauty Doll and Desert camo 109 :?

Oh well just a little more time and I am sure somebody will get them.

Thank you guys for precipitating in this first ever GPXD live auction.

Keep those fingers bidding :D :D :D

Good luck !!

Note - I went and locked the threads that were sold. Two of the threads didn't have SOLD or your end posting saying no more bids, so I didn't lock those.

My thoughts on it (after reading all the posts): It was very entertaining to read. I would have jumped in on one of the items, but alas I had a pinup shoot this evening and I wasn't able to take part in the fun. I like the idea, though I thought some of the items could have started a little higher with the opening price (don't want to see you get ripped off as some of those deals were incredible, and don't get me wrong, wonderful for those who won!).

PROS: Good way to get forum interaction going and give some people a chance to get great deals on things that are insanely high on ebay. And it's a bit fun.

CONS: I think the just a few hours was the only real downfall. Our members here are from all around the world, and having a 24 hour sale would be better as it gives everyone time to place a bid. Like for me, who didn't have a chance at all to even see the threads. But, if they were 24 hours I could pop a bid in. The other con, as people have mentioned, is anger for winning/losing a bid. I think having them 24 hours will help, as it gives time for people to come back and check rather than having to make sure they are on a computer or near their phones for the couple of hours the auction is going.

SUGGESTIONS:
  • - I would personally make them 24 hour auction sales.
  • - And, I think we need to come up with a set of rules which dictate etiquette for bidding (IE explaining that if you put down $200 and the person before you puts down $50, you have to pay $200 and not $51 like Ebay) and also terms of how quickly the person should be paid before you forfeit the win (which then is up to the seller's discretion to put the items back up in a live auction or go to the next highest bidder).
And one final thing, I think the threads can get easily lost in the B/S/T forum for the LIVE auction, so if you all decide to do this again I'll open up a special forum section JUST for the items for the live auction. A few days after the auctions are over, then I'll lock and shut down the special forum section (which will go into the archive threads which only admins can see, just in case we need to call one of them up sometime).

Yeah, that was pretty fun.
The only grey area I saw was in the machi auction where we had two guys bidding on the same lot, but in two different ways. It sounds like they worked it out so they both came out winning but yeah, maybe the rules should've been more clear in that instance.
Also there seemed to be some confusion on the "start" bid, with some people starting at above the amount. Maybe they wanted to start higher anyway?
Anyway. I think it worked out well considering, and a big thank you to Matthew for running this.
