getting a quote on my entire FoV collection & display ca

Post by Cabe » Mon Apr 14, 2008 7:42 pm

I am just getting ballpark here. With my current and sudden realization of becoming a father begs me to ask the question what my collection would be worth. I am not looking to sell them e la carte yet, just all at once.
It includes every fov tank minus the 1st sherman and the yellow and black panther.
Also, this year's releases have not been fully collected. The Stuart, winter pzIV and whirblewind are in there, but the other had yet to be bought.
There are also, no zundap sidecars and only 1 kublewagon, 1 jeep and 1 schwimminwagon.
The collection includes my repaints and diorama which I will post.
I also am considering including my massive display case in the sale whcih is lit with storage doors underneath.
It pains me greatly but I need to know what I might expect for it and if i is even worth the effort.
It is a large case and will probably need to be picked up, which would save tons on shipping the tanks as well.

bear in mind a couple of the repaints are 21st century and there are a bunch of 21st century tanks and figures to be cataloged. Man many loose figures and diorama pieces from play sets too
also, the fov stug repaint has progressed dins this photo to include stowage and more netting that is draped instead of the fuzzy look it had here

but for now the offer is for only the FoV collection and the case. I also have 2 smaller cases that might be included that can be seen to the sides of the large one.
all in all a great way to get caught up with the world of Forces of Valor in one payment.
I can't believe I have to do this, I just wanted to be a kid a little while longer
I guess when things get better I can be a king and country collector...hah

If you wanna start being a King and Country Collector get the stuff now before they are retired and you have to pay a big price for them later. Nice display case ! What kind of price would you like to get for everything?

oh my i would have to sit down, remember what i bought at store (most of them) and then the ones that were ebay finds, and a few I got price gouged at stores for rarity.

The case is ah.... a little um... well it was a 6 month project of setting search filters on ebay and craigslist and having them auto mailed to me every day. Finally this one popped in Albuquerque and I had it shipped here. Yeah, I was crazy i know, but the guy had the perfect case and nobody was bidding on it. I would never be able to find another on like it. it is a store display that is 7x7 feet and almost 2 feet deep. That was extremely hard to find, all glass, big and deep without paying up to 1600 for it or more. Add the storage underneath and the fact that it is all glass? Man it would be hard to put a price on it.
the 2 small ones you can get at Ikea and are worth every penny at $54 a piece, then the lights are another $15 each.

But I set this add up last night in a panic. I recently found out I am a daddy and at the worst time. I was expecting to owe 11k to the IRS and well, my CPA called yesterday and somehow he knocked it down to 4.5k (my dad's law firm uses him and a good friend of dad as well so I got 7k knocked off for free.. Lottery win basically. Papa is a patent attorney.)
But blah blah, anyway I was much much much more relaxed when I heard this and knew I could tackle that debt in a few months and wasn't expected to pay all at once and won't start paying for a month or 2 so I am able to adjust and prepare.
So I get to keep it for now, but still with a kiddo on the way, you never know it might need to go in a hurry, so I guess I am still wondering and have always wondered what a set up like this is worth. It is by no means a nice as some of the "office" setups I have seen here time to time, but for me and my life it is pretty impressive i pulled it off without getting crushed by debt doing it. I love it. It is sadly my pride and joy haha.

But since it seems I wasted everyone's time with a false alarm I would be happy to share my knowledge of how I got this case paid for and moved to my home for around $650 total. I had guys move it, not me so you would think that would be a grand right there. well no. there are some secrets out there to moving things around the country, so if you see or are going to try to find the perfect display case out there and you keep spotting them in far off ( or heck even close) towns with "local pickup only" on the auction i can impart my wisdom I gained with this whole ordeal. I have websites and other angles where you could get something moved for almost the price of gas. If I hadknown this long before I decided I just couldn't pass on this case there were some other cases that slipped by over the months I would have died for, but now I know and now I got.
It is a monster

I don't think that determining value need be based on what you paid for the items. Some are worth more, others may be worth less.

Even more importantly- who is your CPA? We just got raped for ~$32G due to a real estate sale.

Cabe, if you ever decide to liquidate I would not suggest you do the entire lot. First off it would be a huge sum of money. Many people have a few hundred dollars not spoken for that they can spend on a whim, but not very many with a few thousand dollars to do the same. Also, a huge collection is easier to justify to yourself a few hundred bucks at a time.

Secondly, I have avoided many large lots that contain a piece or two that I need because I don't need a twentieth copy of a 1/32 Sherman or etc.

That being said, if you need the money pronto a fire sale may be the only way to go. But if you have some time to spread it out and don't mind going through the hassle of multiple communications and shipments I think you will come out better off in the end.

Just my opinion though. 8)
