How unique is this Zero?
I picked up this Zero at a new WalMart in our area. It was unusual to me because I have looked at all the retail sites selling 32x and have never seen this Zero on any of their website. Same thing goes for ebay.
Does anyone else already have this Zero and can anyone tell me if this one was in smaller production numbers?
I've seen all the other Zeros and they have a sticker at the top left of the window that lists the series it is and who the pilot was and says "limited edition".
This one has none of that.
Thanks,
Bryce

I haven't seen these in my AO, but they were pretty common a while back ago.. It is a nice Zero, but then again, all the A6M2s areBlack Lion VF-213 wrote:I picked up this Zero at a new WalMart in our area. Apparently there's more than one Pearl Harbor Zero. All the PH Zero's I've seen on internet retailers and on ebay show the one with the blue stripe wrapping around the fuselage just ahead of the tail. However, this one I have has a red stripe in place of a blue and a different tailcode than the one with the blue stripe.
This makes me wonder if this was a low production run. I still see so many of 21st's very first 32x planes along with, of course, newer 32x planes still for sale on internet retailers and ebay, but yet this Zero appears nowhere.
So who else besides hworth18 either has one or has seen one exactly like this one? I want to get their take on it.
Thanks

We have one or two at several local walmarts around town here. If I bought one, it would be the 3rd in the grey-green scheme- I prefer a little bit more of a difference to justify another 14.96 other than the lack of a blue band. But, I may have to buy it cause I gotta have em all. That includes the green one with the corsair big hog dogfight.

Neither of the "angled" banded Zeros are Pearl Harbor Zeros, the only pearl harbor one is the Akagi Zero, with the Red band on the fuselage/ Yellow stripes and "Ai-155" on the tail..

Still, since I don't have a 1:32 Zero I think I will snag one.

I saw those in my area a few months back - they came with the assortment of "Winter" Bf-109Fs, but were not that common - only one to a case or something like that.
It has been attributed around here as being a plane flown by the famous Japanese ace, Saburo Sakai (SP?) but from what I can tell from aircraft profiles and 1:72 models of his plane, it is from the same unit, but not his aircraft...
Nevertheless, its a nice early-war Zero scheme!

I found two of these Zeroes at a WM in my AO today but the paint jobs were pretty bad quality wise and there were a of areas that looked like they had been sanded and painted by hand on the wintips and rudder. also the back of the canopy seems to have come unglued on both, so I passed. The back of the box showed really old 21st aircraft like Big Beautiful doll and the Tropical camo Bf-109e from years ago.

>>> The Zero you are referring to w/ the light blue stripe on the tail , is the "Tainan" version. ... The only Zero I don't have , because it looked too much like the "Pearl Harbor" one and I was'nt impressed , so I passed on it.
However , I do like the pic of the one referred to in the link provided.

This one does look like another "Pearl Harbor" variant though.

I'll end up getting this one though , eventually.

Hmmm so there is really one version of Sakai's Zero, the one with the thin blue stripe angled and wrapped around the fuselage. But 21st must have first made his plane with the red stripe, then later realizing they got that wrong re-released his plane with the correct blue stripe?
I wish TKO was reading this thread. I'd like to know if he has any info from years' past about this Zero...
