Gabler 109 Screw Hole Cover Problem

Post by Rowsdower » Tue Sep 18, 2007 9:25 pm

I really love this scheme, it is my favorite 109 by far. However, there are a few problems. There is a screw hold cover on the right side that is not flush with the fuselage. I tried a little elbow grease but it won't budge. It looks worse in person than in the pic.

Now before I pry them out with an x-acto I was hoping someone could give me some pointers on how to go about fixing them without destroying them.

The next thing is the fairing over the left wheel well. They are glued on but instead of being flush with the wing, the left one has a large and ugly gap along it's left side. My question is, what are they glued on with? can I pry it off and repair it or is it likely to break up. Again, it looks much worse in person than in the pic.

Being a modeler up until a few years ago I can handle most problems but I'd like to get some input before diving in the unknown. 8)

Rowsdower,
I have had similar issues with some of my 109s also.. The wing bulges are glued on with superglue, and can be popped off and reglued, but you might lose the locating pins on the bottom in the process.. The only way I know to get the screw covers out is with an exacto.. Sometimes they are glued in and sometimes not, but I haven't found a way to get them out without distorting them in some fashion..

Good luck...

Hmm thanks. I will have to pick up a new pack of blades from WM later. The plug bothers me but I could probably live with it. The piece on the wing with the big gap on the other hand has gotta be fixed. Time for some good old cross your fingers and hope you don't break it model surgery!
