Any update on the FOV P-39

Post by Quixote511 » Fri Sep 14, 2007 7:02 pm

I know this thing was delayed. And, I am desperately wanting one for my classroom ceiling. Anybody know what the deal is?

All I know is what I read somewhere on the BadCat site. It was delayed to October due to some minor tooling issues. Hopefully it will be worth the wait!

Hi All,
Hate to disappoint, but the manufacturer is now indicating that this item has been delayed until January.

That's odd! I'd be skeptical that it's really in-stock.

Just checked they said they had at least one left. It going for $52 without shipping and tax for CA residents. I'd have to pay sales tax and shipping and this would cost to much for me. :(

Odd. Have you checked anywhere else including other vendors that haunt this forum to see if they have it in stock? I'm not disputing what they're claiming its just that the manufacturer told us last week it was being delayed until January. Also, have they posted an actual image of the item on their site to back up what they're saying?

Moreover, I just got off the phone with the manufacturer and they insist this item hasnt been released yet and that it is still being held back until January.

Just so you guys know....I picked one of these up today. It's very nice. I must say that it's a bit smaller than I thought it would be. I guess I thought the p-39 to be bigger.....

Anyhow it was a HobbyTown USA in Frederick MD.

So good luck in you area guys and happy hunting.

edit: So you all know it was about $45. I need cheaper hobbies....

Saw one today at the local hobby shop for $40. It looked real nice and if I didn't have two FOV tanks on the way I would have gotten it. Hopefully it will sit there for a while since most of the people in there are R/C plane freaks and don't want a plane that doesn't fly. :P

Rowsdower, can you comment on the quality? I really want a 'cobra but if for $50 shipped I get dinner plate sized rivets I am not sure I am in the market for one.

Thanks in advance!

P-39 Airacobra

Post by lightning2000 » Wed Oct 10, 2007 5:35 pm

Hi,
Here's the deal as we've been told. The US distribution arm never received their allotment of P-39s and were told it was pushed back until January. Apparently, there is a large US-based distributor that also places orders direct with the factory, thereby bypassing the US distribution component. This distributor, we have been told, received a couple hundred planes, which were then sent out to the brick and mortar vendors they work with. So, in effect, dealers that ordinarily get their product through the US distribution arm have to wait until January to get their orders filled while some smaller mom and pop shops around the nation managed to snag a few pieces here and there.

Not a pretty picture, if you ask me, but nothing we can do about it. I'm sure other vendors like ourselves are in the same boat, forced to wait until January to receive their shipment. Why its taking them this long to make and ship another batch of planes for their US distribution arm still hasnt been fully explained. Hope that answers your question.

That's crazy lightning. I hate to see other collector's get the short end of the stick so to speak. It taking so long for them to produce another batch is odd, I hope you guys can get an explanation. And Olifant, I really can't comment on the quality as I only had time to take a short look  at it. From what I noticed they seem to have listened to all of us complaining about the rivet-fest on the Spits and Mustangs. Hopefully they discovered screw hole plugs as well.

Anyhow I'm going back there Monday when my Tiger (hopefully) arrives and I will check it out. Even better I will try to rustle up some fun money by selling some stuff on Ebay and buy the darn thing, if it's still there that is. :?
