Postage Stamp and Easy Model Planes

Hey I don't know if any of you know about the Postage Stamp Planes by Model Power but they are really nice, heavy die-cast warplanes in the 1/100 size range although it varies depending on the actual aircraft size. They are wheels up only and come with a display stand. I picked up the excellant B-29 and D-Day C-47 around Christmas. I checked the store out today and all models including those are 30% off so your paying less than $8 a piece.

Today I picked up the VX-4 Black Bunny Tomcat and a Silver P-38. They are all well detailed, even the nose art and gun barrels on the B-29. The only bummer was that the Tomcat's wings don't extend from the fully swept position but it is a great model for the size. Head on down to hobby Lobby and check them out before the sale is over! The 30% is off all model kits btw.

Here is the site if you care to check some out, there are quite a few planes.

Wish I had a nearby Hobby Lobby  My local Hobbytown USA has a few Postage Stamp planes, but I've had to get most of mine from online retailers or ebay.

I agree that they are nice models, however :D Actually, alot better than I would have expected for this type of display aircraft. I have the Avro Landcaster, B-17G, PBY, G4M Betty, B-24, B-26, P-61, and the KI-45 "Nick." The Landcaster and B-17 are my favorites. They look good displayed alongside my 1:144 21c planes.

I like these, too. I have a JU-88 that I love.

I agree, they do really give you a lot of bang for your buck. I would like the Lanc and B-17 myself but they always seem to have the same aircraft at the store. I will have to check online. My only complaint is that they should make the stands die-cast as well. On a heavy bird like the C-47 or B-29 the plastic is a bit wobbly. My D-Day C-47 which I love, got knocked off my desk shelf and the stand broke but the plane was intact, the aircraft are tough little suckers. 8)

On that note, I'd love to see them do a P-61 black Widow, an early pre-Pearl Harbor B-17 with the tapered rear fuselage and waist blisters and a late model Griffon-engined Spitfire with the 5 bladed prop.

They do make a P-61, and it is one of my favorites  I think it may be out of production, however. Ebay would probably be your best bet for finding one!

Your right about Ebay, thanks for the heads up. 8)
They make a ton of cool planes, even a navy blimp. What would really be cool would be the Macon or one of the other ill-fated pre-WWII US Zeppelins.
Aikensairplanes shows they have the P-61 in stock.

I returned the FOV Spitfire I got the other day as it wasn't well put together and I tried a hobby shop in my area that I recalled carrying pre-built aircraft. I found they carry many brands and scales of aircraft from Model Power to Franklin Mint.

I picked up a 1:72 Wildcat and a Hellcat from Easy Model. They are plastic and under $10 but really well done. I also grabbed the Model Power B-26 and a Corgi Spitfire MKIX. I will try to get some pics up with the Easy Model planes. They make a large number of aircraft with a few different schemes for each. A lot of bang for your buck. 8)

Ok I changed the title of the thread a bit because I want to showcase these little guys. I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks they're great! I bought a 1:72 Corgi Spitfire MKIX so I guess you can throw Corgi in there as well. :P

Anyhow my Wildcat has landing gear issues so I brought it back and exchanged it for another with one of my favorite schemes. This is a F4F on the USS Ranger in 1941 when color schemes were still, well, colorful. The detail on these things is incredible, right up there with a do-it-yourself 1:72 kit. Panel lines, pitot tubes, antenna and the finely detailed landing gear assembly and engine are all there. All the insignia and markings appear to be printed and are very crisp. The paint job is perfect.

IMO for ten bucks you cant beat em. They make many different aircraft and many different schemes for each of them. The included stand is sturdy, has a nameplate and holds the plane at a great angle for display. However just like a 1:72 model kit they are very fragile, I wouldn't give this to a kid or even let them handle it, these are not toys. The boxes are well-made and small so they are easy to keep in a closet in case you need to put the planes away or transport them safely.

I ordered the Postage Stamp P-61 Black Widow from a local hobby shop. It should be in around the end of the month. If any of you guys have a mom and pop type hobby shop ask if they can order them. It will usually be cheaper than online since you don't have to pay shipping. I will take some pics of the other planes when I get a chance.

I have bought lots of Easy Models. Their Corsairs are amazing. I bought in the same time the Folding Wings Crorsair "Orchid" by Dragon, wich is very nice too except for the undercarriage. The landing gear is total crap, and fragile.

I hope Easy Model will make more 1:72 planes in the future. They made also nice armor and helos (Tiger, Blackhawk...) and now Submarines (Kilo, Akula, Ohio, Seawolf...).

Last but not least : they're pretty cheap !

:D

Yup, I am glad I "discovered" them! :D
Ok, I took my Hurricane out of the box and I am very pleased. They only fault is they didn't include a nameplate for the stand. The detail is great, especially the cannon and even the landing gear bays. The underside is painted black on this one, plus it has the exhaust shrouds so I'm assuming it is a nightfighter. Another great model.
