New Playsets

Post by blurx7 » Fri Jun 29, 2007 5:03 pm

Found three new 21C 32X playsets tonight at WM.
"Assault on Bastogne"
"Operation Cobra-Breakout"
"Battle in the Hedgerows"
Anyone else find these?
"Assault on Bastogne" contains the new King Tiger/Porsche turret in the striped camo, plus the German mortar crew and bunker.
"Operation Cobra-Breakout" contains the new Firefly Sherman plus a squad of Germans I do not believe I have seen before.
"Battle in the Hedgerows" contains the dozer Sherman and the U.S. mortar crew with their bunker.
I like all of these a lot. I already had the two mortar crews, but for the extra $5 I figured why not.
Besides, this is the first time I have found any of these vehicles in my AO and I was pumped at getting some new armor.
:D :D :D :D :D :D

Forgot to mention... they have improved the packaging. The box is still the same dimensions, but now the majority of the front is a plastic window allowing you to see everything you are getting.

Just checked ebay and the dealers have already posted this stuff! Also, there seems to be a fourth set containing the Long Tom, called Heavy Artillery.

Dang, ya beat me to it!!!

I just found them today.

However, I also found a 4th: Heavy Artillery Emplacement, with the 155 Long Tom!

I picked up 2 of the 4 (the Artillery Emplacement and the Operation Cobra Breakout), and have been trying to get some pics to upload. Sorry the pics aren't so great, but I didn't want to unbox them, since I don't collect 1/32 (look for these 2 in BST :) )

Dang!! Those are nice! New figures in some of the packages too :D Now, since you guys are finding them east of the rockies - that inpenetrable barrier for 21c products traveling east to west - I wonder how long it will take them to come my way  I'd be down for the Sherman Firefly.

Oh man, I want that Firefly set and the Long Tom set!

Anyone know if the Wally price is still $20 on these?

i dont' think that's the long tom....i think it's the 8 inch howitzer. They both use the same carriage and so look fairly similar.....only the barrel is different; one is quite long and slender and the other short and chunky. The barrel in the posted pic looks short and chunky to me, so it would be the 8 inch howitzer.

It's about 9 inches from breech to barrel tip, and about 6 inches from the vertical supports to the tip. So it probably is the 8-inch. Still very cool looking, though.
I also noticed that the bunker included with it seems to be the one from the listening post, although I don't know about the 3 figures--I don't recall what the ones with the listening post looked like.

From the looks in the picture, those are the same figures from the Listening post and US Mortar pit playsets. I like those figures as with a few modifications, they can be put to a variety of uses.

I'm actually quite surprised we saw the new artillery and armor in playset form prior to them being released as single boxed versions. Releasing them as playsets, however, is a good idea as 21c seems to include more accessories and figures than have been seen in the boxed vehicles as of late.

well it the barrel's 9 inches long, it's the long tom. The 8 inch howizter's barrel would only be about 5 inches long in 1/32.

I have to get one of those! Hopefully they will be in seattle when I go. The figure sets look awesome! I wonder why 21st has not mentioned this on their site???

That's exactly what I was thinking! Sneaky buggers, aren't they?!

They had announced that they were going to release a Sherman Firefly and 8in howitzer, but never told us when they'd be released. If they don't get individual releases I'll just go ahead and buy the Firefly playset from the World War II Attic when he gets 'em.

Wish 21st Century would give their consumers a heads up on their web site to upcoming products as opposed to stumbling across them on e-bay as we have seen with these playsets. What gives!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At least then we would have heads up that they even exist - or will exist. Then again, that is what this board is for - members call out the neat stuff they find (it is almost invariably NOT in your neighborhood  ) and we all know what to expect. To me, that is one of the most useful aspects of this forum 8)

Well, as of this afternoon, they still had the Battle in the Hedgerows and Assault on Bastogne at the Benton Harbor WM. I grabbed the other 2 last week, and nothing has moved since
