Easy Model Review - June Releases

Post by Gunner » Fri Jun 29, 2007 7:03 am

I got some of the new releases from Easy Model:

1/700 USS Los Angeles
1/700 USS Greeneville w/ASDS
1/72 T-34/85 - North Vietnamese Army
1/72 UH-60 Blackhawk - 101st
1/72 CH-46 Seaknight - USN HC-3
1/72 UH-34 Choctaw - VNAF

I must admit to being disappointed in the fit and finish of several of these. Of the four 1/700 Greenevilles that I looked at, only one had good fit of the sail to the hull. In addition, the ASDS (Advanced SEAL Delivery System) on all four of the Greenevilles was VERY poorly put together with obvious mold seams and sprue remains on the port side (which faces forward when the sub is on the stand). The ASDS is glued to the hull, so fixing it is going to require some careful use of sandpaper and re-painting.

The T-34 I got has an obvious seam at the base of the turret and at the front of the hull, but is otherwise fine. They used metal wire for the handholds on the sides of the hull.

The CH-46 is the best of the bunch. The seams at the top are nearly invisible and mine looks like it's ready to take off from a ship's deck.

The seams on both the Blackhawk and the Choctaw are more obvious and there are even obvious marks were some (not all) pieces were cut from the sprue before assembly.

I don't have a Dragon T-34 or the new FOV 1/72 Blackhawk to compare detail.

I've been a big fan of Easy Model, and will continue to pick up some of their releases, if for no other reason than no one else is doing things like a NVA T-34, a USS Greeneville, or many of the other things they've done (AS-90, M113, Italian MBT, etc).

I get the feeling that with the rapid expansion of the 1/72 product line that quality is not keeping pace across the board.

Great stuff! I've bought about eight Easy Model aircraft in the last month and they are all superb! I haven't seen the helicopters, subs or armor but If they are anywhere near as good as the aircraft then I want some!

I have a KV1 from hobby master and it's true, details are less on EM, but not important.
A very good package too... nice and pretty...
the little more with EM than dragon... a sign in plastic with the name of the tank on.

It's sure, now, i gonna buy more and more EM...

The little nameplate is a nice touch. For the money Easy Model makes a damn fine product and they offer so many models and color schemes.

Is there anyone who kept the EasyModel 2007/2008 catalog scans on his HD ???
I just saved the Tanks and a few of the helos.
If someone should repost them on imagevenue.com, it would be greatly apreciated.

The pics have disapeared on the MH forum.

As for the planes, there are too many of them to count them all. I want two or three Avengers, one or two Bearcats, a ME-163 Komet, the Salamander, a Dauntless or two and I want so bladly one of those captured Zeros !

They're making pretty good progress through the list, too.

I just got the PLAN Type 33 Submarine in. It's top notch. The mold lines are nearly invisible and the paint job was well done. I bought two, one to keep as a Chinese sub and one to repaint as a Russian Romeo-class.

My friendly neighborhood hobby shop should be getting in a new assortment of Easy Model aircraft tomorrow. I can't visit until Thursday sadly but I seem to be the only one who buys the things.

He will also order anything you want from Easy Model, Corgi, etc, and you don't have to pay for shipping so that is a plus! Does anyone make a small scale Hindenburg or Graf Zeppelin? I will have to Google.

The owner of my local hobby shop gave me the catalog. There are some sweet new models coming out as well as the new schemes. I want a Bearcat and a Typhoon and Tempest.
