Matchbox tanks 1/87

Post by Philip » Thu Feb 22, 2007 8:19 pm

I was looking through my collection, and pulled some of my Matchbox tanks, ca. 1/87 scale. Some of these are very nice, esp. the M60. It was a Matchbox issue celebrating 50 years, from 1952 - 2002. There were 6 vehicles in the series - an M1 Abrams, an M3A2 Half-Track, a Jeep, an M4 Sherman, an M60, and a Transporter truck. I have 5 of the Matchbox M60A3 tanks and 3 of the Shermans, as well as 1 Abrams. The M60 tanks are very well done. Did any of you guys get these? The M60 is by far, the best of the models, in my opinion, of course. I haven't seen anything like this from Matchbox in 4 or 5 years. Johnny Lightning came out with a "Military Muscle" series of vehicles in this scale, pretty nice. It seems to me that Matchbox really got it right with the M60. Just wondering if any one on the Forum remembers these, and if Matchbox would do some more?

Hey I do remember those, I picked up a bunch from KB on clearance. I remember finding the M60, jeep, and halftrack being particularly impressive, with the jeep 1/87, the halftrack maybe 1/76, and the M60 smaller - maybe 1/100?

Now that you mention them, I'll have to see if I can dig them out...

I have a whole bunch of the WW2 stuff that I bought when it went on clearance.

I picked these up. too. I like them a lot, as I also like the Johnny Lightning offerings. I wish we would see more of this from both companies, but fear we will not. JL also had a line of WWII aircraft roughly the same size as the 1/144 scale stuff we are seeing from 21st C. There was a P-51, a P-40, a Corsair and one other I cannot remember though it sits displayed on my shelf at home. Ah, memory... I can almost remember when I had one...
