Walmart Observation

Post by rmoore456 » Sat Jan 06, 2007 4:06 pm

Most of the stores I have visited lately are in the midst of their rearranging. What I have seen doesn't bode well! The 1/32nd vehicles, 1/18th planes and 1/18th vehicles are being clearanced and there is NO layout for them! So either Walmart has given up on them, 21C has given up or the sku number will be different. I hope it is the latter.

I have noticed that the shelves are being re-arranged (or re-set) and that the military stuff is being moved over with the models or in that same area..

The WM I visit most frequently is definitely undergoing some type of MAJOR reorganization in the toy dept., no doubt about it. It's too early to tell what that will mean, but I would be very surprised if they trim back or heaven forbid, eliminate the 21C line of products, I just can't see that happening, at least not based on previous sales history, the 21C stuff has been an excellent seller, and they are constantly putting out more stuff. Much of the newer and better 21C stuff I have added to my inventory recently has come from this store, and if anything I believe they will be expanding their 21C line...kinda sounds like I'm trying to convince myself doesn't it ..??

Most of my local Wal Marts are undergoing the reorganization as well. The toy aisle is pretty barren no matter the type of toy.

Being as how a third Pirates of the Caribbean movie is on it's way, expect to see loads of Pirate stuff. Which should help the FoV coffers a little. I wouldn't worry about Wally World, as they sell aot of 21c stuff and I'd imagine that they are aware and will make space somewhere.

Most of the WM's near me are of the smaller kind ( not the Super WM's) I am watching now as they reshape their shelves. Most have new lables for home spots for 1/32 vehicles and planes, 1/48 planes, as well as 1/144 stuff, but I am not seeing shelf space in any of them designated for 1/18 scale. Read into that whatever you will.

My most local WM is useless. Their toy Isles still look like NO. The best WM in my AO is in Cerritos (I think). Their Isles appear to be going through a rearranging, not a natural disaster. I found the new 88, 109F-TROP, 109G-6s, Sherman and Preist kits, some of the new playsets, Oh and a bunch of 1/18th 109s that have been there forever. I saw some of the new 1/48 P-40s at a different WM, those were the first 1/48 planes I've seen.
