Luftwaffe Halftrack

I was surprised when I opened the box to the 21st mortal team/8ton halftrack. The half track has a Luftwaffe registration with the towed artillery tactical symbol. Very interesting...

It is a 21st set called "Morsermanngeschaft" and it consists of a German moter pit and crew plus the halftrack primemover. The halftrack is painted basic panzer yellow with green and brown camo applied over it. I found it in WM yesterday. It was one of three items left on their almost barren shelves...

Luftwaffe ground units, such as field divisions, fallschirmjager divisions and the Herman Goring Pz Div would have had on their establishments artillery prime movers with LW plates marked with standard German army tactical symbols.

This is the same Sdkfz 7 "Famo" w/ ID WL-86338 in tri-color camo offered in the Iron//Horses Dual-Pack w/ the U.S. M3A3 half-track ,.. and has the Waffen-SS Panzer divisional marking "Hohenstaufen" inducted in (1942) and after 2-years of training ,. baptised in fire in (44') ,. w/ a (mobile anti-tank unit marking) above it ,.. which also makes this more interesting ,.. the same Waffen-SS Pnzr.,divisional marking "Hohenstaufen" (w/o anti-tank unit marking) above it however ,.. is found on the right-rear fender of the mobile (S-1) "feld-grau" - 88".

The 88 was first and formost an anti aircraft gun. Witch where always maned by luftwafle crews attached to the army. It would also be luftwafle crews using it against tanks also. The 8 ton prime mover is the towing vehicle for this gun so it is correct to see luftwafle markings on it. And dont for get that the luftwafle even thoe they where the air force also had a combat divison with infantry and armor. this Div was known as the Herman Goring div.

Yes, I agree. There were many vehicles with Luftwaffe registrations including armored halftracks and transport trucks. It makes for an interesting variation for a model vehicle. There were even tactical softskin vehicles marked for the Reichsbahn(State Railway which was a non military, private owned entity) since they were used by the DR to haul war supplies in the form of "road trains" when they didnt have the facilities to provide service by rail under contractual obligations to the Reich...
