Anyone tried to repaint vehicles?

I've repainted a couple T-72s from Iraqi desert tan to Russian European green.

I'm thinking about tackling an M113 or two from the MRC line.

The VN era ones don't bother me. OD green is OD green.

The modern ones concern me.

Anyone tried to remove the decals?

I haven't tried taking any decals off the 1:72 scale MRC vehicles but have with 1:72 Dragon Armor.

I used a Q-tip, put just a bit of brake fluid on it and rubbed on the decal lightly until it came off. There may be other ways that would remove the decals too.

I'm a fan of the Jagdpanther, but I was really disappointed in the paint job for FOV's Normandy (series 1) effort. There was so much weathering on the hull and superstructure that I could make out no camo pattern. So I rubbed in down with alcohol which removed quite a bit of the weathering and then I spray painted the hull and superstructure with flat black paint straight from the spray can. I had masked the running gear as I didn't want to get over complicated with this redo. I then painted over the hull and superstructure with Tamiya Dark Yellow straight from the can. Now the fun part... I wanted to do a green over yellow so I cut strips of masking tape in irregular patterns and draped them over the hull, etc. but still not the running gear. This masked the yellow beneath, but left other areas open for Model Master Medium Green again straight from the can. This worked rather well. I then decided to do the crosses on the superstructure sides only and do the vehicle number "302" which I'd seen pictures of as being in Normandy. I masked the entire vehicle except for the black on the crosses and the black for the "302" which I'd transferred as a cutout from a stencil I'd bought at OfficeMax. I sprayed this with flat black. And that was about the limit of my painting skills except that I masked the black on the crosses and then did the white outline with a brush which did not turn out completely symmetrical, but I'd seen in pictures that the crosses were often painted over partially when the vehicle was repainted. I didn't even try to do the white around the "302", but left the numerals black. I put a little black on the cannon muzzlebrake, the MG, and the exhaust pipes.

I'm pleased with the results and, to me, it looks much better than the original.
