It is damn nice but I have to say FOV is really pulling away with their prices. I know the stuff is still a steal compared to some other lines but I think we would complain on the 1:18 side if an 88 cost $40-$50..

there getting up there 21st 88 gos for $15.00.your paying as much for something in 1/18 but I have one ordered at that price

For a minute there I almost thought you were talking about the new 21C 88, my mistake. Anyway, I picked up the new 32X 88 for under $30 delivered, seems like a pretty good deal to me, but we shall see.

Osk, we are talking about two different pieces - the fov v. 21C. You may be too but just wanted to lay that out there - if you found an fov version for $28 shipped it would be a coup.

And no, their prices do not include shipping.

Hey guys, just to clarify....it's the new 21C 88 I am talking about, the one with the tan/green camo job. Got it here...

I am in Maryland and this guy is in Ohio I believe, so the shipping was quit reasonable, only about $6 or $7 as I recall. Cheers,

The FOV 88mm gun looks great and seems to have better detail than the 21c version, and it also comes with a full crew

I will hold off on it, largely due to the price, which seems a little high for what you get...

Now, the 21c version is still a VERY nice piece and is itself a steal at $15-$20. It is also relatively easy to customize a decent looking crew from existing 32x German figures.

My guess is FOV will have no problem selling the 88 at whatever price they go for. I've spoken to a couple of dealers and they said the FOV German 88 was the most popular back ordered item. I would like to see one first before I fork out the cash. If its going to be mostly all plastic then I might as well buy a 21C 88. If its mostly metal and you compare it pricewise to a Britians 88 (I think they did one or am I thinking of the PAK40) anyhow the Britians was around $120. Its still a great deal at 40-50 bucks. I will however pick up the new 105mm howitizer.

Remeber that they most likely will end up at target stores in the toy versions. If you dont mind doing a little detail yourself. Most likely at the $20 to $25 area?

I'm not sure what you mean by "toy versions", you're gonna have to help me out a little bit here??? All the Target stores in my AO (about 5 stores total) have pretty much the same FOV stuff "version" wise, as the online retailers like Badcat and Foxhole and the rest have, so it seems unlikely to me that we are gonna see the FOV 88 at target for $20, but who knows, stranger things have happened I suppose.

FOV makes two versions of every piece they make. Enthusiast, which is sold thru online retailers and action which is sold at toy stores. The basic difference is little or no weathering on the action grade, usually fewer figures and accesories and i believe sometimes fewer opening hatches etc.

Overall they are basicallly the same piece, though and there is a notable difference in price.

With some of the FOV pieces i've seen i actually like the action grade better because i have felt that the weathering was overdone on the entusiast version. With pieces like the Paladin, MLRS and AAV7AP though the weathering makes it look so much nicer. Very bland in appearance in the action grade (which is usually referred to the 'toy' grade).

Just so you know. You can expect around $40.00 for the FOV 88, the wholesale cost is rather high and then remember the dealer have to pay freight for that stuff as well.

I wonder if the price is higher because it's a bit more complicated to make. I would imagine a tank is somewhat easier. While I'm thinking of it, does the FoV 88 have the ability to be displayed "Set up" and "Trailer" mode? I thought it did. If all that is the case then I don't mind $40 or so.

While I agree that their pricing has gone up dramatically since the range was first launched in 2003, this particular piece is well worth the price. I saw the prototype back at Toy Fair and was thoroughly impressed. You simply cant compare this piece with the version offered by 21st Century Toys. It would be akin to comparing a Volkswagen with a Lincoln.

Yes, you can detach the wheel assemblies and set it up on the cruciform platform so that it looks like its being fired. This kind of intricacy doesnt come cheap and it took awhile to master. Keep in mind too that you're getting five pre-painted figures plus diecast ammunition. The Minichamps version is just as nice, but doesnt come with the figures nor is it positioned to retail for less than $50.

Sure it would be nice to have it sell for around $30 but the fact remains that its a fantastic replica thats still well worth the price.

I think you hit the nail on the head there, and I agree that comparing the FOV piece with the 21C offering is an "apples versus oranges" type of comparison. The extra detail in the FOV piece, plus the figures and ammo you mentioned certainly justify the increase in price in my opinion.

I dont know about you guys but the Target stores sell for far less then the hobby shops. The action grade Stug sells for $20.00 at my Target while an enthusiast grade goes for about $33 to $35

Sherman are the same deal, usually I have found them at discounts as well, dropping the price to $15 or $17 for a Sherman or stug. Willies Kabul wagon $10.00 vs enthusiast grade at $22???

They are a lot cheaper. Will the 88 show at target? why wouldnt it? Its part of the companies strategy and I would bet anything that Target sells 20-1 what on line fov retailers can push!

Ok I got my 88 today and it is worth the price the barrel recoils the hand cranks move the barrel up and down and the other one moves it around it comes with 5 88 shells the front plate you can have it on or off.

Wow - that does explain the higher PP. Working crank and recoil are really nice additions. I hope that is a lesson for any companies that plan to tackle an 88 in 1:18 (I can dream, can't I?).

WOW, that is impressive for sure! That seems unprecedented for a model of this scale, usually the kind of thing found on larger scales I believe. I wonder if those cranks are diecast? I suppose they would have to be, otherwise they would tend to be pretty fragile I think.

they are metal the way i found out they move was when i was moving the barrel up the crank was moving also.

Good deal. I really like this company. I got a red and white stripped road block/toll gate accessory with one of the tanks. The crank on that worked to bring up the gate.....I was always impressed by that.

Now all we need them to do is make more molds instead of more repaints.

-Anti-Tank Half Track (too tired to look up the M#)

Though I would like too see more utility trucks and armored cars as well.
