Small Scale Military Headquarters

I know that there are two versions of this plane, the origional "Jolly Rogers" version and the new "Black Knights" version. My question is, are the two planes different moulds or the same but with different paint? (I had heard talk a while back that FOV was planning a different, more accurate version of the 1:72 F-14). Also, apart from the movable wings and ordinance, what are the functions of the FOV F-14? Do the landing gear retract (or come with variable position options) and what other features are there? Thanks for all your help!

The original F-14 has retractable gear and the elavons move. Not a bad model for the price. Haven't seen the more recent version but supposedly it is a new mold.

I just recieved my F-14 from BCA, making use of their Memorial Day sale. I was really amazed by the quality of the aircraft! It comes packaged in a different style box than its predecessor; the packaging resembling a Dragon aircraft with folding flap and display window. It looks so good displayed in the box that I have yet to take it out.

The new FOV F-14 also looks pretty much as good as the Dragon version, with crisp moulding and panel lines, plus the nicely detailed cockpit, with instruments and figures. The paint is also very crisp and many minute details were added. The landing gear are not retractable, but come with the variable position options. There are also a whole lot of missiles, including 4 Phoenix, 6 Sparrow, and 2 Sidewinders. This F-14 has to be a new tooling over the previous FOV F-14, which was somewhat toyish. Overall, this aircraft is a very good deal at its retail price, let alone the sale!

The new 1:72 FOV F-14 is much more attractive than its predecessor as is the updated packaging. I believe that Unimax intended to release all of their next-generation 1:72 scale aircraft in this format, which is perhaps why you havent heard much concerning some of the planes mentioned in their latest brochure like the Zero and Me-262. The same could hold true for the upcoming 1:72 scale armor, although thats conjecture on my part, and nothing more. We'll try to corroborate this speculation over the next few days based upon conversations with FOV. If its true, we'll try and obtain images of the new packaging for both the aircraft and vehicles.

I do know that their vehicle assortments are much more manageable than in the past. They're now offering WWII assortments, as opposed to combining odd mixes of both WWII and modern era vehicles in the same carton. While most mass merchants didnt mind the original assortment breakdown, e-tailers such as ourselves had problems with it because invariably there would be one or two slow movers in the mix that would prevent us from buying more of the better sellers.

Don't have any pics, but the ones on the BCA site are pretty accurate. The aircraft is quite durable and has alot of metal content: wings, tailfins, both halves of the fuselage. I recently got a look at a Dragon 1:72 F-14 and would have to say that the FOV aircraft is equal if not superior. The FOV plane comes with more weapons, similar variable position landing gear, and has better panel highlighting - it also has the pilot figures, which are always a plus in my opinion
