Hi Everyone,
Well I finally give in kind of, I am going to be joining the club that collects the 32x airplanes in the World War II line. After doing a little thinking the 32x planes are the perfect fit for my needs at an affordable price.
With a collection of large scale World War I airplanes (see my post in the other forum) I need to collect World War II aircraft in a smaller scale, it's a space issue. I like the Franklin Mint line a lot but the lack of retracts and delicate nature of those models isn't good for me. We have two cats and every so often a plane gets shot down by the cats as they jumpon the shelves and knock them off. I know the 32x planes are a little durable so that will be terrific.
The cost also attracted me finally to this line. I can drop $15-$17 for a model much easier than I can $40 or $30. I spend a lot of money on teaching supplies during the year, so the smaller planes make a lot more sense than the larger aircraft for me. Plus I can get more of them. Realistically, two of each plane is probably going to do it for me in the 32X line, maybe only one. We'll see though. All depends.
Finally, for quite a few years now I have had a small but aging collection of model airplanes from WWII in 1/48 and 1/72 scale. Unfortunately these models have been falling apart as many were built a number of years ago by yours truly. I have been "salvaging them" for awhile now but it's gotten to the point where repairs are just not holding up and they aren't that great anyway. The 32x machines will be the replacements as I get them. I will phase them into the shelf space and retire the old models or give them to my nephew for his shelf.
Tman just hooked me up with a Macchi and a Zero. So I am initiated into the 32X airplane world. Now to track down at least one of the other models is on the horizon. I have a post in the trader forum, anyone can help, give a hollar:)
I'm glad to be here!
