Thinking of buying an FOV Jagdpanther. Any thoughts?

I'm looking to pick up an FOV Jagdpanther to use as a reference model for a much larger project. So with that in mind, how accurate are they? Are there any differences between the two other than paint? I have yet to see one of these locally so I’ll have to pick on up online. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

"Yeah",....I think the FOV version is a good representation here. You might also want to look into 21st.'s version too,...depending if you plan to use "schirzen" on your model.

21st doesn't make a Jagdpanther - at least not yet, but I'm hoping they will in the future. :D

This is the 21c version, in one of my diorama photos:

I don't own the FOV version, but one I saw in person had opening engines and a little bit of an interior. The interior seemed to consist of the cannon breach, visible through the large aft hatch. The FOV version also has all the accessories and a nice German commander figure. Still, the 21c version, in my opinion, ranks as one of the best 32x German tanks as far as looks, detail and paintjob and is well worth the price - which is almost half that of the FOV version. Plus, you get the only two 32x Russian soldiers out now.

Sorry, I meant in 1/18th scale. I didn't realize we were talking 1/32nd scale here. My mistake. Thought I was in the 1/18th scale thread.

Timbo,

you can select not only between two prices and two metal contents, but between two variants of the Jagdpanther, too.

The FoV's model is the earlier version, the 21stCT's tank is the later one.

I identify them by the gun mount collar and the mantlet. The early type of the collar (FoV) was more delicate, the late one (21st CT) was thicker and had visible four big bolts in the lower part.

The next difference between the models is the Zimmerit. It is only on the FoV's Jagdpanther.

Regards
Wieslaw

I have done that many times myself. I have been lucky to catch myself so far...

The FOV Jagdpanther is an excellent model. I thought the weathering was a little heavy, so I repainted mine. Nice stuff though.

Thanks guys. The 21C version seems to be the more rare of the bunch. I'll see if I can track one down.

I found the 21c one at Wal Mart

I found the 21st C one at Wal Mart and I like it a lot. I have never been disappointed in 21C tanks. Some I just didn't like (the Chaffee and the PzIII-E) but I wasn't disappointed. I have been disappointed with every FoV tank I've bought. FoV seems to build in some unnecessary flaw(s) into every model. Many can be repaired, but you have to take it on as a project. For thirty-plus dollars that just greases my skids. I have a number of FoVs (Bradleys, StugIIIs, PzIV-Gs, Tigers and LAV-25s) anything I can get from 21C I would and do prefer.
I would say that if you are only going to use it to model off of then you would probably be better off with the FoV than the 21C one. It will have somewhat better detail and make a better static display.
