Italeri RQ-170 diecast insights

Post by aferguson » Sat Jan 23, 2016 4:23 pm

I bought one of these diecasts over a year ago, as it was advertised as 1/72 scale. As it turns out the RQ-170 is probably around 65 to 70 foot span, making this model actually around 1/120 scale. Bummer.

However, all hope is not lost. It turns out that Iran has made a reverse engineered copy of the RQ-170 from the one that crashed there a few years back....a copy, except it's about 60% of the size of the original. Why it's smaller is unclear. It may be a subscale test model or it may be they don't have the long range recce needs of the RQ-170 and can make do with a smaller aircraft.

Whatever the case, my Italeri RQ-170 is back in business as it's now an exact 1/72 model of the Iranian copy of the RQ-170. Just have to repaint it in Iranian colours.
