I have a similar thread posted in the "Customs & Modifications" forum, but thought I'd post here as well... Anyways, I'd been wanting a Panzer II in 1:32 scale (or thereabouts) and since there are no pre-built options, knew I'd need to build a model. I then came across the 1:35 scale Tamiya Panzer II F/G kit at my local hobby store and built the kit as a Panzer IIG stationed on the Eastern Front. Enjoy the pictures :D

That is the kit that started my exodus from 1/32.

Nice build Tman. Turned out very well. :D

Panzer II is tiny, isn't it.

Seems like Forces of Valor are done, and don't think Dragon have released any 1/35 in ages, though not sure about Minichamps.

Would appear that getting any new 1/32 / 1/35 pre builts isn't going to happen anytime soon, so if you want something, better brush up on your modelling skills. :(

I was a history major in college, earning both a Bachelors and Masters in the subject. Besides English, History has one of the heaviest reading loads of any college subject, particularly at the graduate level, but much of it is pretty interesting... The Panzers photographed above are on the shelf with some of my US History books; on the shelf below are some of my WWII books, including some relevant favorites like Guderian's "Achtung Panzer!" and a variety of other works about military theory. Have lots and lots of other books and primary source documents on European history, Medieval history, ancient Greece, Rome, Byzantium and even art history 8)

Ya know, tman...

You could also build an SdKfz 232 or 234 since there aren't any 1/32s really to compare with either (Do you have any of the old Monogram kits built?).

If you got your hands on some extra 21C/Unimax Hanomags, an extra Pak 40, a 2cm Flak 38, some other junk -- you could cobble together a few more variants since the plastic kits will be obviously smaller side by side and not useable. Scratch-build a gun mount for the Pak 40 to get a 251/22. You can either buy a 251 Stuka Zu Fuss kit and try to graft the rocket mounts to the 1/32 vehicle or buy a Dragon rocket set (6509) and adapt that. Several companies make 1/35 resin radio sets for German afv's so you could make a 251/3 radio car. The turret from a 234/1 kit can get you a 251/23 (although I don't believe that one went into production). Unimax already makes the 251/9. Another 4 at least you could jazz up and put on the shelf.

Get another Unimax SdKfz 7/1 2cm Flak 38 truck and find something with a 3.7cm Flak 36 or Flak 43 (post-1943) and make yourself a SdKfz 7/2. Add armor to the cab to make a variant.

Pretty much anything not based off of a frame already produced in 1/32 is fair enough game if you get longing for more pieces to collect and can put up with the assembly process.

Your collection has already grown by at least 11+ vehicles right there. Collect them all!!!

Nice tank! I built that model some 40 years ago when Tamiya offered it as a Afrika Korps version with the AK infantry in the same box. I still have it and it has been repainted a couple times. It has a bit of play damage from when I was a kid, but it still looks decent. What memories you brought back with your post. I love that kit!
