My 1:72nd Scale I-15 Has Arrived

I was right about this one. It's a redo, based on the old Altaya bi-plane series tooling, except with lighter but superior metal, plus improved painting and assembly. Yes, there are a couple of small glue drops and the gunsight is made in such a way that it can't be inserted into its mounting hole----hence it points upwards. Also, they painted the underside of the horizontal stabilizers Chinese Army dark green, just like the upper surface. But all of these little errors are easy fixes----if one is so inclined. Here are pictures of the model as it alighted at my landing strip:Image

hm.....the red looks very orangey. Is that how it looks or is it just the pic? Looked almost shocking pink in the listing. Otherwise looks not bad for $18

The red on the wingtips is darker than the color on the tail and the fuselage bands, AF. I've made them all the same color on my model---the brighter one. As for the gunsight, it can be pulled out, using a tweezer, from the front. The part is made from metal and all that needs to be done is bending the stem straight and filing it down so it fits into the mounting hole. Then merely insert it, with a dab of paint and glue and you are home free. The windscreen's frames also need some paint.

Here's the result of my redo of the I-15. It's a total repaint, using matte colors that are, in my opinion, more accurate---and dirtied up, of course. The gunsight is now fitted correctly and the props are aluminum on the outer side. I also made all of the reds the same shade and did some other, smaller, things. Here she is as "White 17", an I-15 that flew early in the war:Image

my little chato arrived today finally (5 weeks to the day). I think it's cool beans; great little find. I hope there are other hidden jewels out there like this one, waiting to be discovered. :)

As I recall, the Altaya test also included a reworked version of the Fiat CR.42 from its old series. I hope I'm correct. At any rate, I'm keeping a watchful eye out for it.
