My second Horton 229 (1:48 Dragon Kit)

This time it's a Day Fighter. I scored this retire kit off evil bay for a ok price. Well after 3 weeks of working on it ( couple hours a day), I finally completed it. It was a challenging kit to build but in the end it was worth it. I decided to go with a green olive drab painting to some how match the 1:1 replica model display in the museum. Hope you like the pictures.

Great job with that model!

But I'm still happy with my 1:18 day-fighter version made by Pickelhaube

That's Awesome to have it in 1:18 scale. It must cost you a small fortune to have it done in that size. For me I'm only dreaming to have it in 1:32 scale.

Yeah... It was my most expensive 1:18 scale plane to date, but truly was a scale-model work of art by fellow board member Pickelhaube. He designed and built the model from scratch. Mine is one of fewer than 50 in existence 8)

Here's a few pics both "in flight" and "on the ground":

Beautiful plane. I like it. May I ask how much did it cost ?
I have the 1:18 Me 262 too.

The Horton was made by board member pickelhaube, but they are not available any more. Like tman says there are less than 50 of these and all pretty much bought by members.

I'm trying to remember exactly... While that was only last year, it feels like a lifetime ago. I want to say in the range of $300 to $400 for the 1:18 Horten. I got the fully-built version as opposed to the kit and am very glad I did. As you can see in the pictures, Pickelhaube's sculpting and painting work is masterful - just as good as (if not better than) the professional mass-produced ME-262 8)

I agree, the plane is awesome and well worth the price. He is very very talented.

Very nice build on the daytime Horten, cnq.

Quite a good amount of engine detail on that model as well.

cnq,
Very nice choice of aircraft, the Horten 229 is my favorite. :D
The paint scheme on the Day Fighter is fantastic! Very cool looking Night Fighter as well.
It always amazes me how much detail these smaller scale kits have, You did an outstanding job on both of them.

Thanks very much for your comment normandy. Yes this plane is also my most favorite one as well. I've been thinking about doing other paint scheme but only if I could get one off ebay for a dcent price  .

Here are couple more pictures. This time it's the Night Fighter is being check up by the maintenace crew before taking off for a routine night mission.

Nice close ups....I was going to ask you what missiles were under the wings of the Night Fighter,
now I can see them. Looks like Henschel Hs 298's, Very cool.
I'd like to make the X-4 for my 1:18 Hortens.
Great models and photography cnq!!!!
