Cool little Vehicles. What do I have here?

Post by Axis Nightmare » Wed Sep 05, 2012 3:14 pm

Picked these up at an antique mall. Not something I was looking for but they were there and I was there so.... :? They appear to be 1/50 scale and I've found some info on Solido Tanks but nothing on trucks like these. No good information on the boxes. Lots of French writing. The bottom one is a fuel truck but I'm not sure what the top one is supposed to be :?: :?: Anyone familiar with these?

Thanks,

Dennis

Yes Axis those are Solido. I think its a French Company. I know they are probably more popular in Europe than they are here. I have three that I recently aquired from a collector. I actually have them on ebay right now. I have the Dukw, a VAB and a M7 priest. If you want to add my pieces to your colelction let me know. I will make you a very nice offer.

I can translate any "french stuff" written on the box if you post pictures
Solido is a great diecast company in 1/50 scale. I own KAISER JEEP, UNIMOG, SIMCA and ACMAT trucks and I am always after good deal on modern army truck.

@cjg : Which VAB do you have (there is plenty different models) ?

I remember getting these tanks from a book store in the mall back in the 80's. They had a metal spinning rack with pegs full of them, all types of vehicles and tanks but they were very fragile and did not last long in my grubby little hands.
If those weren't Solido I have no idea what they were.

I remember this specialty toy store I used to go to on occasion in southern California 20-something years ago had the Solido tanks. I bought (and still have) an M3 Grant.

Thanks, Ulu, for your offer to translate. The writing is too tiny to get a picture of. As I study the print it appears to be a repeat of the disclaimer/warning about small parts and such that seems to be repeated in several languages. There is bi-lingual of just about everything but still no info on what kind of truck the top one is. Looks like some kind of construction or maintenance vehicle with a large tool box behind the cab and a spool of some kind at the rear. The cabs and chassis seem identical.

Tman, the only thing I remember from the past on spinner racks were the smaller ROCO Minitanks of 1/87 scale. They were the best pre-builts of their time and these Solidos remind me a lot of those. Unless you were into H.O. trains, 1/87 scale didn't do much good. :?

It is an Air Compressor for Pneumatic tools called "LeRoi". Google "gmc aircompressor" for info and pictures.

Thank you jkinzel for the info :!:

Sounds like a pretty obscure application for a truck to end up as a model. Guess that's why it was a limited addition

They had a variety of these at Target stores in the 90s. I had quite a few at the time but have since sold them away except for a few pieces I opened. They are heavy and feel well made, though I never did anything but display them so mine were never put to a test. They lacked some detail but I always liked them. They made quite a large range of vehicles. They also offered a more detailed and weathered set under the name Gasoline and those were (and are) a lot more pricey. As I recall, these went for about $10 or $15 each at Target. Later, many of the more obscure models could be found much cheaper at Toy Liquidator stores.
