It Pays to stay informed about collecting!

All of you new folks who are collecting, make sure you stay informed about prices. For example, take the Dragon
1/144 Mortars. There are 4 in this series, very well made. I purchased 2 of these for ca. $10.00 each. Guess what? All 4 are being sold as a collection for $119.00 at Stratton's Toys. Let's see $10.00 X 4 is $40.00. Now why in the world would I purchase all 4 for $119.00? Only one reason: uninformed buyer. I like Stratton's and have purchased a good bit of diecast from them, so, I guess you can sell anything for whatever price the "market" (that's us), will bear. I have even seen tanks on e-bay being bid on that you can purchase at online stores for much less! I understand something that is a 1st issue, like the Dragon 1/72 Tiger I, being on e-bay, esp. when it is no longer available at the various stores, but biding on an item that you can purchase for less at one of the reputable online stores tells me that there are a lot of uninformed buyers out there. So, if you are new to this collecting thing, do yourself a favor and check with everyone at this forum before you lose your hard earned money. I have listed these stores before, but I'm going to list them again. These are all good online stores with good reputations. I always check these before making a purchase.

Hi,
It could be a typo on the dealer's part. Did you ask them to verify the price listed or see if there's something special about this set to justify the price difference?

Cordially,

Yeah - and with regards to NotAToy, I can't seem to get a response from them if my life depended on it, which it fortunately does not.

There have been a few posts, on this forum and others, about NOTATOY and they all have been bad.

Thanks for the heads up on Notatoy. I listed them because they carry some of the stuff I collect. I have never ordered from them, and had forgotten about the "negative" comments at this forum. Also, I will e-mail Stratton's about this price. However, it has been listed like this for a long, long time.
