The PLASTIC GENERALS revolutionary toy soldier concept!!!
Imagine a manufacture, LAZIER PHOTO PRINTING a HIGH DEFINITION IMAGE upon a 1:32 scale toy soldier instead of a paint job. The figures would look like real human beings! 3-D Lazar photographic printing, ushering in a NEW AGE for toy soldiers!! Can this be done? $$$ ?

Yes, World of Warcraft figures are printed and pre-painted figures:

I already knew about this technique, it's not what I meant. Instead of a paint job, image a photographic photocopy projected onto the figure itself, of a real person, real camo. and gun ect.

ok..Interesting concept. I don't see that as impossible with how far along they already are in 3D printing.
They can already scan your head and make the 3D mold of it, why not the actual photo image superimposed onto that, or any other object?
The fact that the color of the figure is already being printed along with the mold is definitely along the lines of being able to do this process you mention.

Here is another angle on the same process.
Using the Shapeways ShapeMe tool you can get your face printed onto a formed face, and even have some control over the body form and accessories.

I'd imagine its not too long before you will get your face (or face of choice) printed on to a spare head!? (as in Scale Model Sense). Along with greater option and flexibility for sclupting the body!?
Considering this is still a relatively new service it will be interesting to see how it develops!

If I'm reading this right, it's really just pad or tampo printing onto a 3D surface that you are asking for? If so, that's what a lot of diecast and even 21st Century products were done with when they needed a color or decal placed by machine onto a complex surface.

Imagine taking a HIGH DEFINITION photo of a face, then FUSING it to the SCULPT of a FACE.
Should have the 3-D face of a real person.
