Small Scale Military Headquarters

The title really says it all. I am going to buy some 1/35 Tamiya and Dragon kits, and was wondering how well they will go with my 21st 1/32 tanks. Will they look too big, or will it be like the difference b/w 1:18 and 1:16?
Any advice will be appreciated.

1/35 armour will look very small next to 1/32 I'm sorry to say

uksubs is correct: 1:35 armor does look smallish compared to 1:32. I only just noticed this when I recently bought a Dragon pre-built 1:35 Tiger and sat it next to my FOV 1:32 version - the Dragon version was noticably smaller.

1:32 figures are also larger as well. However, I have successfully used the 1:35 scale Dragon Tiger Aces figures in my 1:32 scale tanks and they don't look too off-scale or out of place. They are a little small, but not by that much and look great. Besides, there tends to be scale differences between the 1:32 figures with some being closer to 1:35 anyways

There is a noticable difference, heres a 21st century 1/32 and a Tamiya 1/35.

Be careful mixing the two scales with figures - I bought a box of Dragon tankers and a set of artillery men and they look like they are only 5 feet tall when standing next to the 21C figures.

The trick with the figures is to not mix scales on the same vehicle. I use lots of 1/35 figures in dioramas that have 1/32 vehicles and the difference in scale is usually not noticeable at all. But stick one 1/32 figure in with the 1/35 figures and it doesn't work.

I wouldn't sweat it. As Ram04's excellent photos show, it's not a huge difference. Just keep identical vehicles on different shelves, keep the 1/35 hobbits far away from the 1/32 men of Gondor, and if you have to mix scales in a display, keep the 1/35 to the rear for perspective.

I have K&C figures around my FoV and 21st vehicles, and they don't look awful to the casual glance. And I'd bet K&C are closer to 1/24 than their stated 1/30:

I agree, if you stick with one scale it isn't noticeable, but it will be if you mix scales.

I had all my 1/35 at the back of my display case, but everytime I would look at them they just stood out, so I moved them to a different spot. Now at first glance you can't tell them apart.

I think it depends more on the manufacturer than their stated scale. Like schizuki said, K&C are bigger than their 1/30 counterparts. In that same boat, FOV vehivle creas sem to be 1/35th scale, while their infantry sets (with their enormous hands and terrible proportions) seem to be more 1/32 scale. In my opinion, 1/35 figures, like the Dragon Can-Do series and the Oryon metal figures, go well with the FOV vehicle figures. They aren't too bad alongside 21st Century guys either, but I usually try and mix them in a bit to give the impression of a height variation.

Vehicles is a whole different ball game though. There is a 10% difference in size between 1/35 and 1/32, and since vehicle dimensions aren't necessarily up to artistic license (like maybe a human's height might be), the dimensions of the vehicles are noticeably different, as the above picture shows. Now does that mean you can't use them in the background of a diorama to give it some depth, no, but just be careful when standing 1/32 scale guys next to 1/35 scale vehicles because the figures will appear noticeably big (especially if standing; laying down or crouching maybe not as much).

I stay away from 1/30 scale stuff though, especially K&C. It is just too big IMO to look good with any 1/32-1/35 scale pieces.

Some of the K&C vehicles are pretty darn close to 1/32, especially the Panzers, French armor and the Italian armor. Some K&C are enormous, such as their King Tigers and their non-armor vehicles. You just have to 'eyeball' it.

I don't have enough depth in my displays to put 1/35 in the background, so mixing is not an option for me.

Schizuki, those K&C guys look crazy big on those vehicles.

Meh. Most folks have no idea how big tanks are. Doesn't really bother me.
