I just picked up the Gabreski P-47/ FW 190 dogfight set off Ebay.

Got it for a very reasonable $51, which is very good considering you get the Gabreski P-47 which does not seem to be available by itself. And also a FW 190.

I was looking at the reference thread, and although the dogfight sets are listed, I can't see any pics, or info. This is my first "dogfight set", and it would seem that they have models not available singly. I can't really see the FW 190 from the Ebay pics, so not sure which one this is.

Does anybody have a link, or further info on these dogfight sets, as these have me intrigued about other hard to get 1/32 models. I know some guys on here have pretty massive 21 Century 1/32 colllections, and knowledge.

Also, any input as to what this, and other dogfight sets are worth. As I said, I got this one for $51. Picked up P-51 "Shangri La" and a couple of other P-51 B/C models, and "Angie" P-47 as well from the same seller, and really saved on shipping.

A nice 21 Century 1/32 "bulk buy".

I think you're talking about the Dave Schilling "Hairless Joe" P-47 and the FW-190. Back in 2009, I was lucky to get the P-47/FW-190 dual pack for $33 at Smalljoes. The ebay prices were much higher...if you could find one.
I had seen several of the "Hairless Joe" P-47s sold in an individual box on ebay, but the price was always expensive---more than the dual pack.

I also got the P-51 Mustang "Cripes A' Mighty"/ME-262 dual pack on ebay for $36---but the price on those have also skyrocketed.

Last year, I tried to find the F4U Corsair/Zero dual pack---but they are probably the most expensive of the dual packs. I finally gave up and bought a 1/18 Ira Kepford F4U Corsair from the same squadron as the dual pack's Corsair---the Jolly Rogers.

I bought the two dual packs for my North Carolina collection---Schilling and the 56th FG were originally based in North Carolina at the time of the attack on Pearl Harbor. George Preddy, who flew the P-51 "Cripes A' Mighty, is from North Carolina not too far from my hometown. Ira Kepford was originally based in North Carolina before deploying to the Solomons where he became the Navy's #1 Corsair ace.

After looking at your post, and checking on Dave Schilling "Hairless Joe" P-47, it seems that this is indeed the plane. Thanks for the info.

It does look pretty similar to Gabreski P-47, and I am happy that I have got it. Still not sure what FW 190 is coming with it, but that is just the "icing on the cake". Although, I am a big FW 190 fan.

I have picked up a few 1/32 Corsairs as well, but very limited schemes on these. Got them all, except for the white tail one. Just doesn't look right, IMO.

More than willing to get dogfight sets, just to have a model only available in these.

Nice scores there Snake. I was watching that "Shangri La". If it's the same one It was reasonable and didn't even go as high as what they do lately. It pays to wait.

I've got all the Dogfight packs. The one that's really not that great is the P-51 "Detroit Miss" and the 262. Mainly because the P-51D is the old mold with the battleship rivets. But if you don't have the 262 it might be worth picking up.

Thanks for the info dragon53, if I'm getting what you're saying, I had no idea that the Dogfight P-47 and the Corsair , though similar were not the same as the single boxed versions. I never did get info on that (maybe 'cause I didn't ask ) or I would have bought the single box "Gabreski" P-47 when I had the chance.

I had all 5 Dog Fight sets at one time. The mate to the P-47 is a FW-190D-9 flown by Fw. Werner Hohenburg. from I. / JG 2. The next set is a Ju-87 in Italian markings from the Balkan campaign and a Macchi C.202 also Italian markings with a replaced wing with different camo. Set 3 is a P-51B with a Malcom Hood in Cripes A Mighty markings with D Day stripes and a Me-262A with Black 4 markings and a white replacement nose. Number 4 is the Corsair in Big Hog markings with a A6M3 Type 22 ZERO that has 183 on the tail in red outlined in white. The last set is a P-51D as Detroit Miss with a Me-262.
I believe the Stuka, Zero, and Cripes A Mighty are only in these sets, a few of the others could be but I'm not sure.

I read somewhere that the Shangra-La was an exclusive at TRU and is getting high prices cause of this.

How is the dogfight P-47 different from the standalone? Looking at the pic above and looking at my plane I can't spy anything obvious.

21st issued the P-47 by itself, but the Focke Wulf is unique to the set.

It would seem that the 1/32 reference thread is incomplete. There are no pics of the dogfight sets, and the "Hairless Joe" P-47 is not listed either, hence I thought it was a dogfight set exclusive. It sounds like it isn't though. Not a big deal.

Especially happy to hear that the FW 190 in this dogfight set is indeed an exclusive. As Harry knows, I really like the 1/32 Focke Wulf's, and have almost all of them. So getting an exclusive FW is fantastic.

I will be looking out for the other dogfight sets, as they seem a great way to get rarer 1/32 models.

Does anybody have a link to all the 1/32 done by 21 Century?

Just received an email from the seller/shipper. Sent me a Paypal refund of $4, as she found that UPS was cheaper than USPS. I paid for USPS shipping, and she thought that she was saving me some money. Sounds good so far, right?

Well, I have dealt with UPS before. And I have absolutely REFUSED to deal with them ever again about a two years ago. Simple reason. Absolutely outrageous "brokerage fees" that they charge to ship internationally. And no other carrier charges. First of all, $30 to do the "paperwork"? to get it into the country. Then Customs charges, which is would be collected anyway. The best part though, is when they charge you an additional "UPS tax" for apparently nothing. And not only that, but it is also based on the value of the package.

So on a $250 package arriving, the UPS charges could easily be $70, over and above the cost of shipping, Customs etc.

But it gets better. I have dealt with this before, and I will tell you what will happen.

I will refuse the package [ due to these outrageous fees ], and will ask to have it returned to sender. However, UPS wants its money. They will not ship back to the seller, until the seller pays for all these fees. When the seller refuses to pay these fees, the package will be marked as "abandoned", and will be shipped to "disposal" center. It will sit there for a month, at which stage, it will be destroyed. Literally, destroyed.

The ONLY way to stop this happening, is for these fees to be paid, by whoever.

No good outcome to this for either party.

I sent her an email, as soon as I got the refund notice. Here it is. I am sure she wouldn't mind. And I know she was only trying to help.

Very sorry to give you this news, but this is what will happen. I have been through this before, and it is a fiasco for both of us.

That's a bunch of crap man. If you paid for USPS that's what you should get. Good intentions or not.
Hopefully she hasn't sent it yet.
I definitely won't use UPS for Canada now that I know this.
