Small Scale Military Headquarters

Have you been watching any of the coverage of the protests in Egypt? Have you looked at the armor? It's all US M60's and M113's. I was still expecting Russian armor. Any way, you could easily have an Egyptian column of armor with a few changes to FOV 1/32 M60's and M113's or 21st M113's. Even easier would be to modify 1/72 armor.

I think they still have T62 and upgrated T55. Maybe these are with second echelon/ reserve units

At the moment Egypt has around 1000 locally manufactured M1A2s and 1500 M60A3s in front-line units. Also 500 T-62s and approx. 700 T-54/T55s (some upgraded) in second line.

The Egyptian Army has been the only other country besides the US to build M1 Abrams. As I understand, many parts are made in the US, others are made in Egypt and final assembly in done in a plant in Egypt.

I'm not sure if the have upgraded to M1A2 or not, they originally started with M1s (original flavor) with 105mm M68 guns. Even if they have been building the M1A1 they don't have the "heavy armor" that contains depleted uranium. The M60A3s are ex-US vehicles. Access to US arms sales was a deal sweetener for Egypt to be part of the Mideast peace accords.

i wasnt sure about your statement but looked it up in Janes 2010 combat vehicles and sure enough they have an assembly plant in egypt. the only place outside the USA. all parts are strictly shipped by the state department

Don't laugh... As someone who perfers 1:32 modern armor, it's darn difficult to find normal stuff in 1:32. Cars are few and far between, and even then, mostly exotic sports/luxury vehicles. How am I supposed to fill an Iraqi street scene with Diablos and Enzos? I had to make my own insurgents out of other 1:32 figures, and I've no idea where to turn for women and children...

But, hey, it wouldn't be much of a hobby if it was quick and easy, right?

You're right about lack of everyday 1/32 cars, pick-ups, etc. Have you seen the Airfix 1/32 non-military vehicles. They're a little vintage, but at least they're civilian. Revell and Testors have some 1/32 vehicles but they're more exotic types of vehicles. Sadly the 1/32 diecast are usually semi tractor trailers, usually with sleeping cabs, or they're 'gansta' type vehicles. And as far as civilians, forget about it......

I think most of the armoured vehicles pictured are national guard and the army, not really the elite.
