FOV 1/72 at Target

Found the FOV 1/72 Armor at Target in Normal, Illinois today. $7.99 each. They had the Sherman, Churchill, Abrams and Iraqi T-72.

Picked up the armor at the Coralville, Iowa regular Target for $7.99 per. Saw the planes (Hurricanes & Winter & Snake Stukas) for $9.99. Planes looked very nice, I think with removable landing gear. Also scored some Matchbox Shermans for $3 per.

I'm glad to hear everyone is so happy with the Action series tanks and planes from Target. I can hardly wait for the Enthusiast series planes to come out in a week or so. If the Action series is this good the Enthusiast series should be even better.

I think FOV has done a great job with the action series, I picked up the night Hurricane at my local Target here in Des Moines, IA. After opening the box and setting it up, it looks really nice. My Target didn't have the Stukas, would have liked to grab one of those!

Nothing new in Fresno regarding the 1:72 products, but one Target did have multiples of the 1:32 FOV MRLS, Paladin, LAV and M109 Tow vehicles. Weren't these the vehicles people were paying high prices and pulling out their hair to get a few months back? Kind of funny to see them all in one place.

Today they had the planes. The two Hurricanes and the two Stukas. Look nice the only problem is the engine cowling on the Stukas doesn't fit all the way down on the right side.
Anyone know if the Tiger tanks are/were available?

I think the Tigers and King Tigers are due out in a few more weeks, maybe mid to late August. A member called "fovcollector" would be in the know on this one. He corresponds with FOV quite often.

A ship reached the U.S. earlier this week (July 25 or 26) and this is what is on it. All are "Enthusiast"series.
1/32
84306 Pave Hawk
80218 T-34
80304 German Tiger 1
82205 Kubelwagen
1/72
88200 Plane Assortment (88200 is strictly a number retailers use to order an assortment)
this assortment will contain #85229 UK Hurricane, #85030 German Ju87B-2 St.G 1, #85430 German Ju87R-2 St.G 2)
I wish there were more models in this shipment, maybe there will be a surprise.

Retailers should have them by the middle of August. This is, of course, without any delays due to the terror alert level being elevated, we may see a bit of a slow down at the port.
More die-cast will be on their way soon as another container should be on the water by the end of the month (July). As far as I know it takes about 5 - 6 weeks for the die-cast to be available once the shipment leaves China. If this holds true there should be more models available mid to late September.
I will update information on the September shipment when I get some.
I hope this helps.
Remember, any thing you find at Target, no matter if it is 1/72 or 1/32, is the Action series with less detail than the "Enthusiast" series, which you won't find in big box stores.
I wish I could upload a picture I have of the Enthusiast 81001 Matilda and the Action 91001 Matilda side by side. It sure shows why you should spend the couple of extra dollars for the Enthusiast series. Here is a link to each model on the FOV company site. Open them so you have both pictures side by side and it will show you exactly what I mean.

I only pay $9.90 for my 1/72 Enthusiast tanks at The Battle Rhino, so for $2 more than Target, I figure I'm getting twice the quality tank. I found one other shop that was a dollar cheaper than TBR but his shipping to Canada killed me. He wanted $19 to mail 3 1/72 FOV tanks versus TRB who wanted $7.50, you do the math. I don't have any affiliation with TBR and I receive no remuneration from them. It's just when I see a dealer with a good price I like to pass it on. Every dollar we save can go towards buying more die-cast.

I see 2 of the new 1/72 Enthusiast series Stukas are on the market in the U.S.. The retailer that always is the first to receive the new stock is selling them. He is locate almost next to Panache Place, the U.S. distributor and picks them up as soon as they arrive, no waiting for shipping. So if he has his, the other shops should start to receive theirs within the next few days.
The Stukas are 85030 and 85430. Much to my surprise he is advertising the 85229 night fighter Hurricane. We can only hope that this is a little bonus in this shipment.
As far as I know the next shipment should be available about mid to late September. What's in it, I don't know yet.

Whether you buy from him or not makes no difference to me personally. Knowing that he always is the first to receive his stock, I just use him to judge when the new FOV start to leave the warehouse and when they will be available. There is the odd occassion when a shipment arrives in port but gets delayed by Customs, it is one thing to know they made it to the U.S. and another to know that actually are becoming available.

Just went to a local Target that just opened up a week ago and they have alot of stock on the 1:72 FOV tanks and even some Spitfires. I saw at least 3 of each different 1:72 tank, 4 Spitfires, and a bunch of the larger scale stuff.

Upon examing the FOV Action Series Sherman in the box at my local Target I noticed the gun barrell is not hollowed out. Is that the case for the enthusiast version too? Kind of annoying, but can be fixed.

It's the same on the Enthusiast series, something FOV will have to work on. The Churchill is a tiny bit better, a slight concave but there is lots of room for improvement. All 4 vehicles, released so far, are like this, the barrel is not hollowed. How do you, easy8, correct the problem, a Dremel?

That was going to be my approach. What do you think? I thought about trimming what appears to be the rounded end of the barrel just a bit to allow for a flatter surface for drilling...it will be tricky, but I think it might work. I might even give myself a starting point by using a hobby knife and spinning the point around the tip of the barrel to provide a start for the dremel. Or you could use some of the micro hand drills that are out there...any other thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Easy,
I wouldn't use a Dremel, one slip and the tank is toast..
I use fine/micro drill bits and a hand vise to drill out gun barrels..
I typically spin an exacto first to make a starting hole and go from there..

Hopefully I can make it work! And if I goof, I guess I can label my newly created gouge in the Sherman armor as a german round that "glanced off".

On the plus side, you don't have to drill out much.. I wouldn't go too deep just for the fact that it won't be seen and you have a better chance of drilling thru the side of the barrel...
