Aikens is showing a great looking paint scheme on the new Hobby Master 72nd scale F-5N Tiger II. It is VFC-111 "Sundowners" Naval Air Station, Key West. Shown to be out in March 2011, and this is HM-HA3301. Really looking forward to this one.

I don't know I just can't find interest in the 1960s-1990s jet aircraft.

Great that HM is doing the F-5.

Although Sundowners is a great scheme, not for me, as I will only be getting a couple.

I agree. The F-5 was the principle aggressor squadron aircraft for both the US Navy and Air Force for many years. Fast and very agile, the F-5 closely matched the performance of many Soviet bloc aircraft, which made the F-5 ideal for the aggressor role. Dubbed the "Freedom Fighter", it was also sold to about a couple dozen different nations, and is still in use by several. There are a bunch of possible schemes available and I hope HM will offer some of them. I'll definitely be getting one. 8)

Great pick.

Still prefer the F-15 in the photo. 8)

So many more F-5 schemes.

I guess it be OK for hardcore fans of the Top Gun movie. Some of the F-5 aggressor aircraft out of NAS Fallon and Nellis AFB had Soviet style red stars painted on the vertical stab, but to the best of my knowledge none were ever painted black. The closest thing in real life would be the T-38's out of Beale and Holloman AFB.
