Big thumbs up for the Corgi B-24.

Post by Sabrefan » Thu Sep 09, 2010 2:00 pm

I got a Corgi B-24 in today from Aikens, and wow what a beauty. I got the AA34015 B-24H, 756th BS/459BG, Giulia Field, Cerignola Italy, Late 1944. I really like the paint work on this model, and it is really well made. If I could figure out how to put pictures of it on here I would, I am very proud to own this one. :D

I was reading about this B-24, seem the nose had heavy damage from flak. It was rebuilt with parts from other B-24s, then given that cool paint scheme.

I'm glad you like it. I just didn't care for the scheme and got Sky Witch instead. But they do make a great model! I also have the CC B-24 coming.

The Corgi CC planes are really great.

With the Liberator CC version being amongst my favourites.

Didn't CC deploy Gladiators in the BoB in 1940, when the RAF was putting anything and everything with wings against the Luftwaffe?

I remember when I was a kid, my Doc who was a Brit, had a HUGE poster in his office of the Island with every Sqd and pics of all the planes used in the battle..it was like 5'x3' or so IIRC...but I was a kid so everything seemed bigger in memory..but I would love to find that print.

I'll put in a positive note for the Corgi B-24 as well. I have the B-24J "Sleepy Time Gal" with the extra noseart piece. The B-24 is a great tooling with my only beef being the lack of an opening bombay. Still, I like how there are all the crew figures at every station, moving turrets, and the retractable ball turret 8)

Whats cool about this B-24 is that is was a B-24H meaning it had a nose turrent. That was damaged by flak, so the nose was rebuilt with sheet metal and a B-24D nose. I also read that this was converted into a radar carrying "Mickey Ship". Anyone know what the role of a "Mickey Ship" was?

Also, anyone know where I can find pictures of this B-24 on the web? I have found one very small picture of the nose of the plane.

UPS just dropped off the Do215B-4, 3 days early..UPS had noted it on 13th. So that's nice. Also got a order from Amazon early as well that was scheduled for the 13th.
