Mini product review, first airplanes

Post by zzzippper » Thu Aug 05, 2010 2:36 am

I've been opening my 1:48 collection and finally have them all open. These are the things I like, dislike, and things I've learned.

1) HM makes superior models! I like everything about them. any shortcoming listed below for other makers does not exist on any of my HMs. I will always make HM my first choice.

2) I don't like exposed screw holes (Franklin Mint).

3) I don't like all the nitnoid little pieces that Carosel 1 includes. But at least they provide plugs for the screw holes. What is up with the two swastika decals for the Galland 109E vertical stab? I thought I did not receive a canopy with one model until an extensive search turned it up.

4) I like a choice of gear down or gear up. Franklin Mint offers a choice: gear down or gear down. But I will need some plastic cement to fix the LH MLG on the Carosel Tomahawk II.

5) I like the little extras, collectors portfolio or model card included though I wish they would make more effort such as a little artwork.

6) I very much like the display platforms that Carosel provides. Two thumbs up!

7) The 190D must have had a tiny tiny cockpit or else Barkhorn needs to lose weight and sit less like a lady.

8) I like how HM does not put huge moldings on the bottom of the airplane to announce who made it.

9) The Stuka was a big, mean looking SOB. No wonder it scared the hell out of Europe.

10) I wish Korea had hobby shops. It would have been nice to see the models before I bought them.

11) I like dealing with Flying Mule.

12) The only model with a scratch was the FM Hurricane Mk II. And the "7" on the rear fuselage looks like a confused "?".

13) I need more models.
