Dragon T-34 Scaleing Error?

Like a lot of fellow collectors I was concerned that Dragon goofed when scaling the T-34/76. I measured the max height (1.43") of the model and used a scale chart at the following site to check if Dragon was correct. Height of the T-34 should be 8' (1.33"), Dragons measures 1.43" (8'6") roughly a 5% out of scale model. To my shock, that would make their T-34 too big and I thought it was too small  !! Anyways, this was fun to check and its really no big deal, Dragon did an awesome job with the Tank. Now, will somebody check Corgi's model and see if they goofed.

My measure of the Matchbox T-34/76 was 1.25" in height which = 7.5'. Length was 3.5" = 21' w/o cannon overhang. Width was 1.75" = 10.5'.

So the Matchbox T-34/76 is roughly +10.5% larger than 1:72 scale. Huh, could it be that both Dragon and Matchbox are purposely making these tanks look larger so they sell more :?: Interesting thought!!

I think that you're going the wrong way with regard to height. The Matchbox model is in scale for 7.5' while the actual height as you reported and as I looked up on the Web is 8' making the Matchbox too small in height. On the other hand the length of the Matchbox appears to be in scale. My measurement puts it a 21' while the Web states 21' 1". My measurement of width at 1.75" is incorrect upon another measure. It measures a little less than 1.75". Scale for my first incorrect measurement puts it at 10.5'. The Web states 9'10" as being correct. So the width is probably OK as well. Again the height of the Matchbox model is the only really questionable measurement and the Matchbox appears to be too short, that is, smaller than 1/72, not larger.

measuring height on tanks can be tricky. Generally height quoted is to the top of the heighest point, which is often the commander's hatch or even an air vent. It's not just to the top of the turret, which is usually a bit lower than the true overall height.

Height of Corgi T-34

Corgi's T-34/76D (edit) 1/50 scale model measured with calipers to the top of the turret is 1 7/8" or approximately 7' 10". Measured to the top of the periscope it is 2 1/16" or 8' 7". Looks like Corgi scaled this model properly but dang does it look small compared to a Panther. Of course the Panther had a height of around 9' 9".

the t-34 was not a large vehicle, just a bit bigger than a Sherman.....and the Panther was quite large......bigger looking than a Tiger in fact.

I don't mean to sound negative, but this IS 1/72 scale.. Who cares if it's out of scale????? Unless by a "gross" margin???
I mean, c'mon, kinda "rivet counting" aren't we????? :?

Help! I'm confused!

Which Corgi T-34 are we talking about? Is the Showcase T-34 a 1/72 model? If so, I missed my chance by quite a ways.

The discussion was about the Dragon T-34's and the Matchbox T-34's. But someone else started mentioning the Corgi T-34's. The only Corgi T-34's I know about are the 1/50 scale models and the "Showcase" models which I thought were considerably smaller than 1/72. So I'm confused.
