lots o' big ship models these days

with the Revell u-boats and gato, they've now released a 1/144 Fletcher class destroyer, almost 3 feet long.
And Lindberg is following up their 5 foot long japanese sub model with a soon to be released 1/144 Arizona battleship!
One could make a nice Pearl Harbour dio with that; just need some 1/144 kates, vals and zeros..

1:144 is a good scale for large ships as it really gets the wow factor without the models being too big. Years ago, there was a modeler in my area that built 1:144 scale models of the WWII aircraft carrier USS Essex and battleship USS Missouri. The models are huge and sport amazing detail, right down to the crew figures. They could float and were RC on top of that. Both models were on display at my local Hobbytown USA store, though now only the aircraft carrier remains for public viewing. I'll have to get a picture of it sometime
However, speaking of large models, when I lived in England, I visited the Royal Maritime Museum in Greenwich a few times. They had massive model ships on display, some in 1:48 scale and larger!

there are actually several 1/144 ships available now, although some are pretty expensive.
Aside from a bunch of wwii submarines, there is the fletcher, arizona. bismarck, yamato, prinze eugen and if you don't mind 1/150 a couple more.
If i had any space left i'd be pretty interested in these.....but that plus the thought of putting together a 500 piece destroyer kit, makes it a no go.
Maybe next lifetime..
