A Q for all you 1/72 Enthusiasts...

I have an HO scale 24"x24" Battleground vacuform diorama piece made by Mainstream/Power Play from the late 1960's-early 1970's in the UK.

It is molded in grey and is the 'Ruined Village' set. They made 6 sets total in order to create a large 6'x4' battlefield diorama. They were specifically designed for HO scale Airfix soldiers and Roco Mini Tanks. Just like the smaller Bellona vacuform sets. Does anyone know where I might be able to complete my collection or at least see some detailed photos?

They also made (which I am looking for):

BG1 Harbour Layout
BG2 Trench System
BG3 Coastal Fortification
BG4 Beach Landing
BG6 Ravine

One other question for the small scale collectors, would you like to see products like these make a comeback to the market or do you think diorama pieces are a waste of time? Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Thank you guys!
Matt

Hi Matt,

I have just read your post with great interest as there is a discussion going on in the Airfix Tribute Forum as seen at this location:
http://airfixtributeforum.myfastforum.o ... 20811.html

This may be a good site for you to monitor in case we can turn up some photo's and I would be likewise grateful for any other information that you have. I would be particuarly grateful for an image of the set that you do have.

Obviously there are a few of us around the world with very fond memories of these items.

Best regards

Alex

Thank you Alex!

If you shoot me an email at sales@foxholetoys.com I'd be happy to take a photo of the diorama piece and email it back to you. (:

Cheers,
Matt

I think diorama pieces would be great.

I would be interested in purchasing diorama if the price is reasonable and has realistic details. I would use them for either displaying purposes and/or photo shooting 1/72 armors and planes. However, I collect armors and planes, not diorama. In the future, I can see myself buying one of each winter, desert, jungle and destroyed city dioramas and nothing else.

I am sure there is a market for diorama. But, it’s probably a limited market and not many repeat customers.

Not familiar with the Airfix HO dioramas, but I am sure that would bring back memories for some.

I am sure there is a certain market for the small scale diorama, but it would be quite limited in my opinion. Just not the mass market for plastic kits, dioramas etc as there was in the 60's and 70's.

I'd go for something like this. A wargames company recently put out I think four 2x2 foot sections that you can put together to make a nice base. I think the cost was like $50 per section, which was too high for me.
