It is a great deal considering Aiken's sells them for $45 each not including shipping. These look like nice models in the pictures, if you have one (or both) how about posting some pictures for us to take a look at...??

I had the Hartmann 109G for a time, but I was disappointed at the lack of detail for such a big scale. I did a lot of detailing (including cutting the one piece canopy apart to make it workable) and I still ended up Ebaying it a few months later. I only paid $26 + shipping for mine and to be honest, it was too much.

Dunno about the 109's Harry, but I'm sorry to hear you were disappointed in yours. The P-51's look quite nice from what I can see, and the ebay deal the guy is offering on a PAIR of them including delivery is really hard to beat IMO. I found this review and a series of high resolution shots of the Merit 1/24th Gentile P-51D, and I have to say it looks very impressive. I'm seriously considering ordering the set from the ebay seller. The only real downside to these is that the only moving parts are the canopy and prop, but I can live with that no problem. BTW, for anyone who is curious about these, they are BIG birds measuring 16" in length and with a nearly 19" wingspan.. Oh yeah, and the wings have more or less proper Dihedral, which is more than I can say for any 21st Mustang....

I've got all 4 and although they don't have working features am pleased with them. I read they are just built up Trumpeter model kits without the detail parts. I'm big into 1/24 scale so they were a must have for me.

I also bought all 4 but didn't remove them from the box. I just stored them with the rest of my stuff. If I do take them out of package I will try and post pics. I do like them but I'm not an expert, so I can't really say what is right or wrong about them.

Received my Merit Eagleston P-51D today, ordered it from the ebay seller (pricebully) on Sun. and it arrived today via Fedex, wow that was fast. I'll be the first to admit I am no expert on WWII combat aircraft, but I do know a nice looking model when I see one, and the Merit P-51D absolutely makes the grade. The prop turns, canopy opens, and wheels turn, that is the limit on moving parts. The tires are made of rubber and have what appears to be a very accurate tread pattern and wheel design, a nice touch IMO. The wings have correct dihedral (up angle) which was a major shortcoming on many of the 21st Mustangs. Markings are crisp and clean with no chips, smears, or smudges, and there are no excess glue spots anywhere that I can see. It would have been nice if it come had with some additional ordnance, such as bombs etc. but no biggie. Weathering is limited to some very light panel highlighting, but is nicely executed. Some light exhaust streaking would have been a nice touch. All things considered I think you'd be very hard pressed to find a nicer model for $25 delivered, and I'm seriously considering ordering the Don Gentile "Shangri-La" P-51D as well. The ebay sale this guy has going for the pair @ $45 delivered is simply an outstanding deal in my opinion. For what it's worth, I noticed the shipping container had this printed on the side "Limited Edition of 1500 Pieces Worldwide" or words to that effect. 1. Can the P-51 landing gear be broken off and re-glued in the retracted position?
2. This is a far out question, but does anyone make 1/24 pilots that can be put in the Merit P-51?...(other than unpainted pilots from 1/24 model kits).

To the first question, I believe yes they could be glued in the retracted position. Regarding pilot figures, I have been unable to find anything, in fact the only figures I've been able to locate at all in this scale are some unpainted Luftwaffe (standing) pilots from Verlinden. There does not seem to be much at all in the way of 1:24 figures and/or accessories, which is a shame because you could make a really neat airfield Diorama using the Merit P-51 as the main subject. If anyone knows where to find this kind of stuff, the info would be greatly appreciated.

Nice mini review

I ordered my P-51D Shangri La last night, as mentioned in the other thread, and can't wait for it to arrive. Neat to know that the tires are rubber as the tread pattern looks really nice.

Thanks for the pics and the review.. The P-51 is much, much better than the 109 is. Now I wished I had went ahead and got the Mustang instead.

Got my Shangri La P-51D yesterday and man, for $25 shipped, it's an amazing steal! Yes, it's a big model, nicely detailed and looks extremely accurate. My Shangi La arrived with very few flaws.

Very happy with this one.
