Small Scale Military Headquarters

HM will be releasing a new tooling an FW-190A-8 7401 & FW-190f-8 7402 LTD and was wondering what the forum thought of the new tooling aswell as the paint schemes they went with? they have been doing a great job with little done planes and vehicles. the FW-190 is a great plane but done time and time again!

I picked mine up last week, and here is a review I posted on another forum:

Well, got home and unboxed the Focke Wulf.. To be honest, I think many of the concerns about this model have been answered by HM and some weren't.... The base model itself is just about perfect, Funny that the landing gear are engineered very similar to the C1 Dora except that the HM 190-A does not use magnets. I installed the gear with a dab of white glue and they seemed to sit fine. Its noted that the main gear struts (including tailwheel) are metal, and the front wheels roll but the tailwheel doesn't. Also, if you want to use the stand, you cannot have the droptank (or the ETC501 rack) in place, which I think is probably the biggest negative on this piece. For some reason HM just cannot seem to figure out how to give us stands and deployable droptanks/armament at the same time. Weird.....
The canopy movement is very smooth and one thing noticeble is that the canopy is missing the large red warning sticker that is typically applied below the headrest. No biggie there..
The rest of the cockpit features a detailed instrument panel, control stick and seat, it does not have side panel detailing (throttle controls, etc.) though. If you put the pilot in, you can't see the sides anyways, but it will be noticable if you don't. And speaking of the pilot, he looks just fine and fits the cockpit rather well. He also looks good sitting in cockpit with the canopy closed, unlike the Spitfire pilots which seemed way undersized.
The rest of the plane is done very well, the paint is crisp and the markings up to usual HM standards but what is missing is the the smaller stenciling/walk lines on the wings. The fuselage mottling is done well, and I think if we hadn't already picked the mottling apart, we wouldn't know any different. The application looks good, the only thing I noticed is that HM used the same color for the mottling and in reality, the mottling varied with the fuselage colors. The fuselage has some small stenciling on it close to the tail and that is it. In regards to stenciling, I should note that not all planes had all their factory stenciling after being painted/repainted in the field, but the missing wing stencils are noticable as those areas were usually not painted over.

Overall, I am pleased with HMs first effort. It shows promise and I think that many of the smaller issues/niggles can be corrected with later releases, except for that stand, how/why did they do that??

If I were to rate this using stars, I would give the 1st release 3.5 out of 5. The plane itself is first rate, but the stand issue and lack of smaller details takes away from the overall model.

were did you get it and what was the cost?

i understand very few dealers got thiers. HM only sent half the total amount to US

I got mine from Onmark International, but Badcat The FlyingMule and Petes Collectibles also have them in stock. They run about $51- $57.
