The Chaffee saw action in late WWII and in Korea, it was also sold to many other countries. The 21st version was available pre-built and later as a kit. I know the pre-built version I had was diecast though I'm not sure about the kits. For one of 21st's early models the detail was very good indeed and I would say if you find one get it, you won't be disappointed. 8)

Like Rows said... it's a nice little tank, definitely worth having if you are a 1/32 armor collector. I don't think this was one of 21C's more common tanks, and they may be getting somewhat scarce these days as a result. I'm not aware of anyone else who makes this model in 1/32 scale, so if you can find one at a decent price I would say go for it.

The 32x Chaffee is a nice little tank. The detail is not like the Marders, but it still displays well with the other 32x and FOV pieces. Among its features, the turret can be removed so as to place figures in the driver's hatches. The two hatches open on the turret as well and a detailed gun breach was included. The turret storage bin also opens. My only gripe with the tank is the exposed screw hole on the lower part of the front hull. It is pretty noticable and could have easily been placed further under the tank...

If you were to get a version, I would recommend the diecast "cold steel" variant. That had the best paintjob with weathering. The S1 scheme is nice, but a bit bland. The most recent version with the "rainbow" cammo looks terrible in my opinion.

I agree. IIRC they had a few of those in kit form at my local WM once upon a time, but I avoided them completely because the paint job was so awful looking. That Rainbow scheme would have to rank as one of the top 3 or 4 worst schemes 21st ever made IMO.

A tip when buying: the model kit version of the Chaffee has a photo of a Korean war tank with the gaping sharp tooth mouth scheme. This was never released and all model versions have the "waterstain" paintscheme Tman and OK are talking about. This is not my favorite scheme and the Chaffee is not my favorite piece but it doesn't look to bad next to the Sherman with the same paint job.

Why didn't you buy and re-paint? :?:

It just wasn't necessary (or worth the effort), when I have this one plus a couple others including the cold steel version that I picked up on clearance for $10 ea. at the same WM store. Repainting the "rainbow" kit version might be a good option if you can't find anything else though.
