Small Scale Military Headquarters

I started with 21C in 1/32 and have since moved towards a 1/18 focus but still keep up on the little guys.

What does it say for us here that barely anything has been said about the MD feeding frenzy while the 1/18 forum has been all abuzz. Is this smaller scale nothing but a side show for us here?

There was a discussion when the 1/32 A/C was on there for sale, but now that they are sold out of just about everything 32x (other than a few pieces/playsets) there isn't anything to talk about I guess.

The big discussion is in XD with that stuff going for pennies on the dollar (just about) but it too will go when the stuff sells out.

We're too busy buying those sale items to post on the forum


I personally have dropped $300+ on the sale items there alone, not including the retail items

Yeah, we want to bask in our 1:18ness for a little while, with sales. All happy now.

Till there is nothing left, only an occasional release from BBI and FOV 1:18.
Then it becomes a rich man's sport, with double digit prices, private reserves, online speciality.

Been keeping my eye on 1:32, because of the variety.
Lately buying the FOV stuff. Some of the armor is amazing.
I don't mind the size. Seems to me people with limited space, wanting more vehicles and planes 1:32 is the logical scale.

So yeah, 1:32 has been the "sideshow" for now.

I think that if a company like BBI all of a sudden released a 1:32 twin engine warbird, then things could change quickly.

BBI is still in the game for 1/32 aircraft if we can tolerate one release a year, and Admiral is a possibile contender if 21st truly has gone the way of the Dodo and freed up the market.

I think if I had to do it all over again I'd collect 1/72. There seems to be endless choices and manufacturers and armor as well as planes take up much less room.

I recently pulled all the 1/72 buys I had made over the last year and added it to my small 1/72 display; I have maybe 20 planes and 30 tanks and although it doesn't take much room I have found it much more enjoyable than my 1/32 stuff. I think if 21C goes under 1/72 is the way to go.

For me the lack of new items and general tightness of wallet due to the joys of the economy is to blame for my quietness. I still lurk every now and again.

"Back in the old days" the "Groundpounder" site was started and developed primarily for the armor and figure guys. As 21C moved into airplanes and the "Groundpounder" site changed over to the GP3 site the airplane guys dominated. Many of us never left our roots in 1/32 armor and don't plan to. There are still some 21C items, Monogram and Airfix models and FoV that can be enjoyed, detailed, converted, etc. 1/32 armor isn't dead it's just probably going back to the back burner like it was for years.

I think 1/32 will be a viable scale for quite some time, but 1/72 is a great scale with a lot of different products to choose from, and it's a more practical scale for larger sized dioramas, and especially for wargaming IMO. I think both 1/32 and 1/72 are here to stay and will weather the current economic storm quite well.
