Hi all, What does everyone think is the best scale to collect. 1/72 or 1/32. I'm thinking just armor now. not warplanes.
Saw some 1/32 I like but can only collect one scale. I liked the details on the armor in the store. What to do??? Thanks

Forces of Valor, but 21st is improving I would say, but they seem to focus more on aircraft and their 1/18 line. The FOV tanks are usually fantastic.

I like to collect U.S. military die cast. I started to collect 1/72 couple years ago. But seeing the 1/32 models and figures wished I would of got them back then.
These would be just for display.

I collect both although its far easier to collect 1/72 for space and price reasons. The 1/72 lines are much larger more vehicle and plane types to choose from.

I collect different things in all different scales, but my preference in armor is 1/32 or 1/35. I guess it all depends on how much room you have, what size of a collection you want and what appeals to you.

I find 1:32 appealing, as that's my primary scale, because it's just large enough for lots of detail, and the paint apps are usually a lot better than 1/72. But, 1/72 is really nice and a lot easier to get ahold of than 1:32. But 1/72 isn't always cheaper, it depends on what manufacturers. Some of the 1/72 planes are outstanding. I've almost jumped in because of the pure selection, but I don't have room for another scale.

So it's good to stick to one scale, and it's quite easy to veer off. I told myself when I started, only 1:32 planes. I now have several 1:18 planes, a few 1:18 armor pieces, a couple 1:48 planes and tanks, and 38 1:32 planes and 35 1:32 armor pieces. It is addicting. Oh yeah, and around 20 1:18 figures, haha.

really it's 1/48 it seems, common among alot of prebuilt, and armor is improving since Tamiya start both pre-built and kits..figure wise it's limited..but aircraft wise..there is more than anything in 32 scale, it's getting up there with 1/72 aircraft.

i'm 1/35 first and 1/32 second myself...to much invested to go into another scale for Military stuff..maybe if I ever get back into model railroads again..but that will have to be N scale.

I thought you could do G scale train with the 1:32?

I used to build a lot of 1:72 when I was younger. Along with 1:48 it's the most prevalent.

After I saw 1:18 I was hooked, but do to my limited display space, I like 1:32, because there is a lot out there now especially with 21st and FOV.

Who knows though, I'm bugged by the fact you can't get any beyond two multi-engine aircraft in 1:32, but you can build or even buy four engine diecast bombers in 1:48, and that's as big as they get right now.

1/72 has more variety and better prices but I prefer the size of 1/32 myself. I do collect both however.

May I suggest finding a way to supersize the house so you can collect all the scales? Start with 1/32, move to 1/18 and then dabble in 1/72, 1/48 and 1/144. Foster out the children, divorce the wife, put down Fido, whatever you have to do to make room. Or rooms. Preferably one per scale.

i just like the range of Nscale..you can go Euro or NorthAmerica...almost any period and a normal 4x8 size layout can be really impressive and dynamic with all kinds of rolling stock and industries.

as for twins in 32, you have 110C/Gs, Beufighter, Ju88(upcoming) Mosies, and maybe more I found a 32 scale balsa B25 kit(Old) and there was a very $$$ B-24J which was fiberglass/resin or something other than plastic.

when I saw the Hurri IID at my local shop I was dumbfounded as that kit escaped me for awhile as I had never seen it before in person.

I can draw, I can do Photoshop, including aircraft skins for IL-2, and I can paint. But for some reason when it comes to models they never work out how I want them, they look like crap. I'm sure it's because I don't have an airbrush, but even then I probably wouldn't be satisfied. However, with weathering I feel satisfied quite often. There's only been a few times I took a step back and said, damn, I went a little too far... My poor Firefly. =_= Eh, I just place it bewteen my other tanks, I can't believe I made it that muddy.

I'm so bad at kits, (besides small ones that only take a few hours, like my Pak-40) that I'm starting to save up money for that pre-painted F-14 kit. Still a kit, but not in the traditional sense. Not to mention I can see all the inner workings. This will go with the argument for 1:72 and 1:48, we're so deprived of big jets in pre-built/pre-painted 1:32 that this is only the second post-war jet that's out on the market that's not a traditional kit. At least that I can recall. In 1/72 and 1/48, there's F-100s, A-4s, A-6s, Corsair IIs and so on. In numerous paint schemes to boot.

We have one F-4, and one F-14. There's probably an F-104 on the way, but we're not even sure about that.

The 1/18 guys... that's sad. They deserve that Phantom, that A-1, and for the hell of it an F-105 for all the crap they've been through... I'm still in for an A-1 myself, and would be in for a Phantom. I don't know where I'd put such beasts, but I want them just as bad as anyone. I like my 1/18 jets.

I just got a Dragon 1/35 King Tiger--it is far superior in detail and finish to my 1/18 tanks (21st Century Tiger I, M4 Sherman and M48 Patton and an FOV M1 Abrams). Since the Dragon 1/35 tanks normally sell for $70-$80, they should at least come with a commander figure. Only my FOV 1/16 Sherman is a better tank model than the Dragon.
