FoV T-72 disappointment

I just purchased a near mint T-72 on ebay and, upon receiving it, that the main gun will not depress even to 0*.

Has anyone else noted this or is it unique, for some reason, to MY model alone?

Assuming you're talking 1:32, no you're not alone. sadly my own is the same way. I understand that the turret shape has a lot to do with it, but frankly, I doubt that there's an entire breech block in there to contend with. I was pretty bummed about it at first, as I find a drooping gun to be one of the most dramatic signs of a knocked out tank, which I was planning on using my T-72 for some of the time. Especially since FOV felt so inclined to damage the tank up so, it seemed only natural.

That's probably my bigger complaint with this tank, the damage. I know I can at times be in a minority here, but I prefer my tanks to come to me fairly pristine looking. If I want it weathered or damaged, I'll do it myself. That way it can be made to fit into whatever I have planned.

Other than those two things though, I like the tank. I have it surrender a lot, as everyone knows it's no match for a platoon of Abrams.

I'm also a bit put off by the shallowness of the turret floor, re: the "commander". He stands awfully high in the turret,

This actually is a generic complaint about all the FoV turreted vehicle. The depth of the turret is limited to the top of the hull. This is a toy-design flaw that FoV seems to have no concern to change.

I have not had mine off the shelf in a while, but I recall doing some work on the gun to get it to depress. A little grinding and cutting I think.

Did you have to take the hull apart to get to the turret?

Funny, I was looking at my FOV T-72 last night and thinking about how the main gun doesn't depress all the way. Not really a big deal in my book. It still is an excellent renditioning of the T-72 and one of FOV's better efforts in my opinion 8)

For the record, however, the gun on the 1:72 scale FOV T-72 does depress all the way

I repainted mine to soviet colors, but I did fix the gun issue. I took the tank apart and tampered with the inside.

I kind of figured that that was what I would have to do.

Mine depresses (and elevates) just fine, at least as much as the real T-72 tank which is only -6 degrees, which really is not much when you think about it. The trouble with mine is the linkage between the main gun barrel and the spotlight is very weak, mine has been broken for some time and there doesn't appear to be any easy way to fix it. Overall though, I like this model a lot and I wish FOV would produce a Soviet or Warsaw Pact version.

Now that's weird. So some depress and others don't. Great quality control there at "FoV Central."

It has been a while, but yes I did disassemble the hull to open up the turret. The issue was the gun wouldnt go level letalone depress as I recall...
