Merit 1/24 P-51 questions

Post by Black Lion VF-213 » Fri Nov 07, 2008 8:45 pm

Does anyone own either of the two plastic (I think there's only two) P-51D Mustangs in 1/24 by (I think I'm correct) Merit?

What do y'all think? From the pictures I've seen they actually look better than BBI or 21st Mustangs.

I'd like to hear what y'all think

Thanks

The Mustang and Bf 109G are both "built" Trumpeter 1/24 kits. I had the 109 and I was not real impressed by it. Just not much detail in such a big model. I actually detailed mine out to make it more acceptable.

Thanks Harry. You mean they actually put together the Trumpeter kit? Was it built on a production line? Was the Trumpeter kit all that detailed to begin with? So if it's built from a kit I'm assuming that it's probalby thinner and therefore more fragile than XD or 32X planes. Any more info on these?

Thanks

Bryce

My assumption is that someone at Merit decided to produce a 1/24 P-51 and Bf 109 and used the Trumpeter kits to do it. Surprisingly, the kits really aren't that detailed. The exterior is about the same as a 32x plane without the working landing gear, but the interior is less detailed. The instrument panel on my 109 was very basic and wasn't what I expected. The sides of the cockpit have basic detail also and that is it. I think what disappointed me the most on the 109 was that the canopy was one piece. I actually removed the canopy and used an exacto knife to seperate it from the windscreen and then made a simple hinge to make the canopy workable. Looking at pics of the Mustang, it does look a little better.
