I was thinking about getting the 1/28 scale b-24-d Liberator for display but would like a few opinions. Could anyone that has this kit or had one in the past please give me a detailed review.
Also, does this kit include instructions on how to build the kit? How well do the peices fit together after being cut, and how sturdy is it? How hard is it to cut the peices from the balsa sheets?
Thank you for any of your help.

This is just from observing my brother making them as we grew up.I would say you should buy a starter model first and make sure this is for you.I imagine the B-24 is more advanced model. Most parts are pre cut just have to make the final cuts and the long stringers I think they are called you just cut them to lenght the width is already done for you.some have vacuformed parts to trim out etc.Plus you need a board the length of the model blueprints to pin the parts to.Corey builds or used to build them alot hopefully he will come along soon to answer too.Hope this helps Kim
Thanks for your help. I was thinking about getting the Hellcat first, hopefully this weekend. It is only about $9 at Hobby Lobby. I thought this would be a good kit to experiment with. If I do get the kit, I probably won't be getting it until late May or early June.
What are stringers?
Thanks again for your help.

I agree with Kim....these things can be very challenging to build and the results can often be less than satisfying.
Stringers are the long thin pieces that run between the formers. What the kit is, is basically a bunch of balsa bulkhead shaped formers that shape the fuselage, wings etc. The stringers connect them, so what you are essentially building is a skeleton of an aircraft (much like how the real airplane is built).
You then have to cover it with tissue paper (this will be the 'skin' of the airplane) and that's the toughest part. Easy to get wrinkles, tears etc and of course there is no surface detail except what you can add with inginuity. The resultant model will also be fairly fragile.
Having said all that this type of kit is a good way to get large scale models of subjects you'd otherwise not find in large scale. I ordered a 1/18 scale Lancaster kit a few weeks ago (which i'm still waiting for to arrive
) and it is exactly the same format only i plan to cover it with thin plywood sheet.
I have a hunch that 21c is going to get heavily into 1/32 aircraft soon and i would not be surprised if they made some big bombers in that scale. You may want to wait and see before building a balsa Liberator that is not only going to be too large for 1/32 but also a bit of a hair puller to make...
