Its time for more useless chatter...

Post by olifant » Tue Jul 01, 2008 6:57 pm

This 1/32 and smaller forum has really slowed to a crawl. I am writing this from FW/RAF P-51/Spitfire purgatory and to kill the time think we should discuss what the next logical 1/32 pieces should be for 21C.

Armor or Aircraft?

I am thinking armor should get the next turn. Last new piece was the KT Porsche that came out a year ago. I think it is time to give the allies a few more pieces as despite my baker's dozen Shermans they are still outgunned and outnumbered. I am thinking a TD is in order, especially an M-10. Pretty significant piece historically. An alternative would be a smaller model to save on material costs while holding the price point at WM. Then I would suggest an M-8 Greyhound. These are two pieces that are crying to be done. Of course they may choose to scoop FOV and do a 6X6 truck instead. That would be cool!

Wildcards are: T-34, Churchill, Cromwell and perhaps a Puma.
Cheap retools: M-3 w/ 75MM, German Pak-40 halftrack, Stuka zu Fuss, M-8 SP gun.

Now to AC. Will 21C go all out on a P-38 and bring us some twin engine love? The only single engine fighter of the war to be highly produced and widely used is the Hellcat. I know we all love the Hurricane and P-39, but these have been done in die cast by Corgi and FOV. I think the Hellcat would be a safe bet and could scoop BBI from doing it and this is what we will see next. Nice match for Dauntless and Wildcat, and I don't think 21C has ever done a 1/48 model and then scaled it up. They have always built large and then scaled it down, and have publicly stated this they cannot do it any other way.

Wildcards are: P-47 re-tool, P-38, Typhoon, P-39, Hurricane, Mig-3 or La-7.
Really dark horse: Fiesler Storch. This would help them save materials and stick the price point.

Thoughts?

I'm with you on the idea of a truck. Please. A truck. Is it really too much to ask for? If I promise to buy yet another paint scheme on a P-51, will you make a truck?

Myself, I'd prefer a M-35, but I know the WWII crowd is strong, so go ahead and make it a CCKW. Just please, make a truck. My modern forces are having to carry parts and supplies for their Abrams in a WWII German truck, it's disgraceful!

I'm thinking about defecting to 1:72 armor at least for a while. There is no shortage of obscure models in that range and always new stuff on the way. Not to mention I don't have to go broke buying one. I think the current financial mess and the rising costs of fuel and materials has put the double jock lock on 1:32 for now.

Of course if I ever found a non-sharkie P-51D or Spit I wouldn't hesitate to pick it up. The three main problems I have with 1:32 right now is lack of new models, rising costs for FOV at least and inability to find any of the damn things. I can't find a natural aluminum 21st P-51D but theres 2 BBD 1:18 Mustangs sitting for $20 at my WM.

I'm an armor guy so I would piss my pants (no not literally  ) if someone released some Russian armor or an affordable standard issue US truck. I also think they need to release some more soldiers... The grunts should always outnumber their armored comrades. Some more Russian figures would be nice as would some winter Germans, or any Germans for that matter, or hell even some GIs. Or, y'know, just for kicks and giggles it'd be fun to have some modern guys.

I am an Aircraft guy, so I would suggest that 21st Century's next aircraft issue should be a P-38.

No Spitfires or Red 19's around here.
But in the meantime, I found a decent Sharkmouth P-51 @ TRU to tide me over.

I'm also considering making a couple Fw190 customs from the abundance of Yellow 11's out here.

That truck is sweet but the prices are just getting too high for me. I put more money into my gas tank than I do on collectibles these days.

I collect both the armor and aircraft. Olifant's suggestions are pretty much on the mark. Do remember that a T-34 has already been made (by FOV) as has a P-39.

I do not think 1:32 has exactly drawn to a stand-still. In a month, we should be getting the BBI 1:32 Dauntless and Wildcat and who knows what else from 21c. The KT with the Porsche turret was not the latest piece of armor - the Panzer 38, Marder IIIs, and Hetzer were

Where 1:32 has run aground is with the distribution at mass retail. This stuff takes too long to go anywhere, and then it goes sporadically. I totally sympathize with Olifant in these respects, for I live in the southern portion of that XD/32x purgatory: the western US. Why ALL the new releases go to that midwest/upper south region of the country and stay there for months on end without going anywhere else is beyond me...

Sure would be nice if someone "knocked one out of the park" by making a twin engine fighter or light bomber. Even a 1/32 Avenger would be cool. 8)

Damn Tman, I have been jonesing so hard I forgot all about the newest 38T chassis items.

I am looking forward to BBIs releases, but they are a little spendy compared to 21C. I know we have all been spoiled by the $15 WM price, but I would sure like it to continue!

My hope is that after China recovers from the Olympics and has a chance to rebuild after the earthquake things will resume at their normal brisk pace. Q3-4 '07 and Q1 '08 had things flying out of the factory. I look forward to these times of plenty again!

I am betting that toward the end of the summer, when stores start their reshuffle of shelves in the toy aisle prior to Christmas, that we start to see new product. I am seriously betting on seeing the new FOV deuce and a half in an Action box at Target. ( and praying they are marked down big time after Christmas so I can get several!!!) But I bet we also see new product from 21C announced this summer in time to hit shelves in the late summer/ early Fall. I also have suspected we may see 21C do a US truck.... the temptation must be great.
Of course... I have been wrong many times before. Just ask my wife.......
What would I like to see?
P-38, P-38, P-38, P-38, P-38, P-38, P-38,!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Besides that?
Mosquito, Hellcat, Typhoon... same stuff as everyone I am guessing.
I would also like some more armored cars. Greyhound for sure. Puma, too. And I still want a Bren Carrier in the worst way!!!!!!!! How hard can this be? I know I am not alone in wanting Bren Carrier.

No crapping GD! :D I went from picking these up from WM weekly, turning my nose up at any without perfect paint and thinking the gravy train would never end. Now, if someone from the midwest doesn't take pity on me or I buy from an e-tailer I am out of luck. :?
