Pulling out my 32x Chaffee...
I know what it is that you're encountering. You should be able to pull on the hatch and lift it up onto the peg. That should make the hole wide enough for the driver to fit in. I would imgaine that this process will work the same on the Cold Steel Chaffee, as its hatches should also be plastic.
To insert the driver figure takes a bit more creativity. Stick the figure in the tank so that you get its head out the hatch. Slightly pull up on the figure and twist it around so that it faces the correct way and sits on its "stool." Should you want to insert a second figure, use pretty much the same process, but pull up on the first figure so that you can get the second figure's legs turned around.
Hope all this helps!

THANKS!
Did just like you said and it worked!I was afraid to go yanking on things till I heard from some one who has done it before. As we know some of 21st things tend to go SNAP when we try to move em when we dont know how to do it right lol thanks alot! Kim
another way...
I guess that I cheated... I had the M24 apart for some redetailing and put the driver/bow gunner in the locations before reassenble.
Another approach is to trim the lower parts of the figure(s) with a sharp knife and insert them. You really can't see into the hatches very far.
