Have several sets of the British and German soldiers both built and painted and unbuilt. I have a lot of 1/32 models waiting to be built which are not available in pre-built. I especially enjoy the figures becasue there is such a variety of kits. Problem is that I live at least a 2 hours drive from the nearest model store that has quality paints such as Humbrol which I really like. Ah yes, the open spaces of Texas.

My biggest gripe with plastic kits is their durability. It always seems like years down the road something falls off, gets lost, and generally makes the kit that I worked for hours on look like crap. I'll also admit to being a sucker for moving tracks, when I first spotted FOV tanks in a store, that's the number one thing that drew me in, and from there, it was all down hill...

* I enjoy the Humbrol paint myself. "Good quality paint".

* I have Humbrol tins that I've had in my paint collection for @ least 35-yrs. now ,.. and it's still good. ... This paint and Pactra , have stood the test of time for me. * 8)

Hey MG, I have that exact set sitting on the floor in my closet behind me at the moment, as I have not got a chance to build it yet :D Why do you ask?

Airfix kits and figures...

Post by binder001 » Thu May 29, 2008 9:18 am

Due to the receivership of Airfix the multipose kits are out of the pipeline for a while. The were originally produced in the 1970-80 range as 6-man stes. They were re-released in the late 80's with 12 man sets (nothing new - just double sprues). They were re-run about a couple years ago, that's when the set with the Afrika Korp/8thArmy/Crusader was reproduced. Back in "the old days" Airfix also produced an M3 Lee, an M3 Grant, a "Monty's Humber" (staff car), the Crusader, a 17-pounder AT gun and SdKfz 250 halftrack. The "multipose" figure sets included Afrika Korps, Eigth Army, US Marines, British Infantry (Europe), German Infantry, US Infantry and Japanese infantry.

I wouldn't mind getting ahold of one of those "Desert Rats" sets myself. I just wish they could have re-run the Grant and the 17-pounder also.

Look for the old Monogram 1/32nd scale M8 Greyhound in plastic model form. They aren't common but they ARE out there. I don't think they ever had the name "Greyhound" on the box. Monogram also produced the companion M20 armored utility vehicle. These were relatively good kits for their day and build up nicely.
