If these show up at TRU I'll probably get one, but I think I much prefer the S1 scheme.

I don't think this a particularly historically accurate paint scheme, but I think I like it. Look forward to picking one of these up if I ever see the darn thing.

I know I am beating a dead horse but WM distribution really stinks. I think I have had only a 50% find rate for releases over the last few years. If it wasn't for fellow board memebers helping me out I would go broke on E-bay!

Never did see a Hetzer here. The 38T and both Marders are all over the place but not one single Hetzer. I gave up and got mine from Small Joes. I've also yet to see a P-51D besides the British shark mouth. But hey, we've got P-47's galore!

This new hetzer scheme is about as ugly as the new Marder M scheme. I'm glad I found all the S1 schemes.

Let's hope that 21st keeps the 38t love going by giving us the Marder III H, the 140 recon tank, the Grille SP howitzer, and the flakpanzer 38t...

I will scour all my camo profile books and look for a similar hetzer camo,
it is an ambush camo with brown and tan, and for the record just might be accurate. Maybe not.

I like it, I just wish they had figured out we wanted MGs on the dang things.

if you look on the back of the hetzer book by New Vanguard publishers, there is a hetzer variant with a similar camo scheme on it.
Bottom line on German camo is that many many liberties were taken with camo, especially in the late war months. If this hetzer was delivered in the field in its gelb yellow base coat and the crew or unit was out of or not delivered a green they would have made do with the brown to get it camouflaged or, it could have been a personal choice by the crew. Flipping through any of the "panzer colors" books (I believe there are 6 volumes?) you will see a wide variety of camo schemes that have a personal flair. Even a stug IV with Picasso style deco on the shurtzen using the red green and yellow paints, well thats what the caption describes it as. To me it looks like Donald Sutherland bought it as the hippy tank driver in Kelly's hero's and went nuts with a trippy swirling Van Gough "Starry Night" design on the side.

No doubt about that. If there is one common thing about German AFV camo schemes, it's that there was no "common" or "standard" scheme. The only real commonality would be the predominant base coats of grey or yellow, depending on the time period, and the camo patterns themselves are extremely diverse. You might assume that the big model makers like 21C and Unimax use some sort of reliable references to make the paint schemes relatively accurate from a historical perspective, maybe they do, and maybe not. The bewildering array of patterns that saw actual use must have been huge, and many of these were never saved for posterity in photos or publications, and the modeling booklets probably only contain a fraction of the total, making it nearly impossible to say with any degree of certainty whether a particular scheme is "historically" accurate or not.

I agree Ostketten. For all we know, an entire battallion could have painted their tanks orange and black for Halloween... then promptly court marshalled for risking everyone's skins! :D

YOU NEVER EVER KNOW.

I do like the scheme, it appeals to me. If having to stare at the 15 or so Hetzers in my Wal-Marts now doesn't hurt, not having money for TWO would blow, that's for sure.

There was set standard on colors...RLM colors choosen for the time period, ie NO PanzerGrau Jan.1,1943 to March 1945, No Panzergelb in Afrika...although rumors at time of Gotterdamrung/End of the war, Panzergrau stock was used since it was on hand when other paint was not..but it was against official Reich orders of use. On that respect sending out a panzer in red primer or panzer grau, I would say the red primer would be the more likely to happen.

now the pattern was done in several way, 1. Factory applied, 2. Rear Supply-Area applied(along with updates/field mods) or applied by the crew of the AFV itself in the field with whatever was on hand...the Olivgrun and Rotbraun were issued as a paste and cut with what ever thinner could be found..so shades of redbrown and olivgrun were common...also no standard pattern was set, as rear supply and crew were left to free hand the camo as to say. themes existed but I would say not set in concert as had to be done this way or that.

Prob is this S2 doesn't look like Dunkelgelb base which for it's timeframe....would have been dark yellow OR maybe Olive green for the base color..or Primer Red w. Camo added...

this looks Desert Tan, which only saw use in one place other than North Africa...a few PzKpfw IV F2/Early Gs sent to Southern Russian were Desert Tan over sprayed with PanzerGrau when the batch was rerouted from going to Rommel to support Stalingrad.

July '44 and later I don't think the stocks of desert tan would be there, esp in the Czech factories where the Hetzers were built.

I look forward to finding one of these. If I were worried about historical accuracy I would build 1/35 and count rivets.

Of course, that takes time, money and skill that I don't have.
