TKO211 - Group Purchase idea...

TKO211-
I tried to PM you, but I guess your "inbox" is full , because my message has been sitting in my "outbox" since last Thursday.
Since I can't reach you via PM or e-mail, here's my idea for a Group Purchase.

Since the 1/32 P-51D was 21st Century's first plane, what better way to celebrate that milestone that with a retooled 1/32 P-51D Group Purchase.

First of all, to make a successful Group purchase, we both know you need numbers.
I think the only way to guarantee numbers is to have the group purchase centralized on AREA 21.

Since you had mentioned that Bud Anderson is a favorite of 21C, I think it makes sense that the Group Purchase should be Old Crow (silver) with a ground crew and a 1/32 jeep... resembling "Winter of 45" by Philip West

Please let let me know if this sounds like a viable idea.

Respectfully,
RAD 2112

I am hopeful that 21st Century will include some of the following P-51Ds in later releases:
1. Cripes a Mighty 3rd (Maj. George Preddy)
3. Shangri-La (Maj. Don Gentile, War Bond Tour)
4. Petie the 2nd (Lt. Col. John Meyer)
5. Bunnie (Lt. Roscoe Brown, 100FS, 332FG)
6. Hurry Home Honey (Capt. Richard "Bud" Peterson)
7. Glamorous Glen III (Capt. Charles E. "Chuck" Yeager
8. G4 A (Capt. Charles E. Weaver)
Thie list goes on...

BTW: When can we expect to see Bud Anderson’s P-51B Old Crow?

If anyone voted "No", could you please explain why.

Of course I would buy one, but I would prefer the olive drab version before his ground crew "cleaned up" the bird.

Lets start a trend with this. New tool P-47D Gabreski and P-38 Bong anyone?

RAD, I agree. WHO VOTED NO?! I suspect it's those communist 1:18 guys... and we all know their motive.

I voted no. We need different aircraft not repaints.

I voted no...

1. It's kinda pointless. 21st would most likely do an "Old Crow" paint scheme anyway.

2. If you're thinking of doing it in a limited release, then you're basically telling 21st to make it in a limited run at a higher cost.

3. 21st is bad when it comes to this. With their spotty (non-existent) customer service, endless delays....why give yourself that hassle? Remember the Tender Terror fiasco? How many years did those people wait for their prize?

The only way they can do GP is another repaint..
It would cost more make another plane than a repaint of an existing plane.

I voted no. I'm not really interested in another Mustang; I already have three and would rather spend money on something I don't yet have.

Also, unlike a bunch of you guys, I'm not as interested in the pilots as much as the planes themselves, so whether or not its Old Crow, Bullfrog, Berlin Express matters not to me. I look first at the type of aircraft, then the paint scheme. Which is why I prefer the German aircraft due to the variety.

Now there is some armor I would be interested in as I started collecting that a little late and I've missed a good number of the earlier releases.

I voted no. Corgi has already done both in 1/32 diecast and I own both. I prefer the green one.
If you want one, I highly recommend picking up one of these, they are worth it.

Did anyone comprehend the reason I sugested a P-51D Group Purchase? This is a milestone for 21C.
Instead of stating "No repaints", could you make a well thoughtout response to why you chose "no"?
[CAT]CplSlade "...I prefer the German aircraft due to the variety"
I can understand why...
We still have yet to see a Dornier Do 335, Me-163 Komet, Heinkel He 162, Gotha Go 229, Focke-Wulf Ta 152, Focke-Wulf Ta 183 ;)

With the economy being so bad, who knows if 21C is planning on making more than the (3) re-tooled P-51Ds announced ...or any other planes for that matter?

We still have yet to see a P-38 Lightning, F6F Hellcat, P-39 Airacobra

I'm suprised we haven't seen any Russian Aircraft...

aktiger - Not every one can drop $100+ on (1) plane.

1) 21C has NOT made a 1/32 Old Crow to this date and have had several opportunities. If they were going to produce one, it should have been one of the 1st planes announced.
2) The purpose of a group purchase is to keep the cost low, PROVIDED you have the numbers.
3) To clarify, the Tender Terror was part of a CONTEST, not a Group Purchase.

Actually, if you get lucky, you can find OC for under $60. OMI had theirs on sale a few weeks ago for $59.99 which was a steal!!

I'm also in for a "no". I just don't have the interest for yet another P-51. I get it. It's a great plane. I like it quite a bit. But it's time for something new.

As mentioned earlier, I don't really have an interest in the pilot(s). I like a little nose art, but frankly, I prefer my pieces to be a bit vague. I like to be able to envision them as what ever I want, not a piece tied to a certain person, place, or even time. I do like being able to have more than one of any given item, but I want them to look like a real world gathering, not like a staged airshow with nothing but the big names. And that usually means several planes with the same paint scheme, looking very much alike. I wish that manufactures would supply decals that would allow pieces, either armor or aircraft, to be marked as individuals. Not all of my Panthers should wear the same number. And an entire wing of "Old Crow"s would be a little odd as well.

So, pretty much for all the reasons already stated, and my own that I just voiced, my vote is a no. Nothing against the "Old Crow", it sure looks like a nice P-51, but at the end of the day, it's still just another P-51.

I'd be in for a Hartmann 109 or Priller 190A

not a huge fan of the P-51, but depending on the scheme I might go for it.

aktiger - Not every one can drop $100+ on (1) plane.
Agreed...but, the dog that sniffs about, finds the bone. I paid about $120 for both (2) of my Corgi Old Crows's. It seems BBI has decided to sell plastic 1/32 for almost the same price.

If you have never picked up one of the Corgi's, your missing out. They are amazing.....removable panels and gun locker cover, detailed engine and cockpit, movable flight surfaces and undercarriage, and diecast.

There are a few online retailers that currently have the Old Crow listed between $75 and $90. On Ebay they go for between $45 and $90.

I would be the first in line for an exclusive group/club purchase, I would rather not buy a duplicate of something that has already been done, regardless of who made it.

There is a SBD selling for 100+ in 1:32 now.

Put me in the no column as well. I'm sick to tears of repaints and of P-51s, HOWEVER, if they did something really different with the Mustang as in making Air Racers like Miss America or Bob Hoover's Yellow Mustang he demo flew way back when I'd jump on it.

1) Old Crow is not special. Guess what? The new re-tooled 1/18 P-51 Old Crow wasn't the first paint scheme either. I think it was...re-paint 8..9? 100th?

Suffice to say, a 1/32 Old Crow is probably already in the works. Maybe the reason this hasn't been chosen as a first paint scheme because Old Crow has been DONE TO DEATH. There are other aces, other beautiful Mustangs that 21st, BBI, whatever could make. So what would be the point of a group purchase?

2) The only way you could keep the price low is if 21st makes at least several thousands Old Crows. If 21st does that, then once again, what would be the point of a group purchase...why not just release it to the general market?

3) I know TT was a contest. Heck I was here when various members were trying to contact 21st, asking 21st where the heck were their planes.

My point is 21st is terrible when it comes to deadlines, promises, etc.

So you're expecting people to fork over money for a plane that in all likelyhood, won't see the light of the day for years, even if 21st gives the green light today.

21C has damn good performance when it comes to 1/32 deadlines. Crap, we are getting new releases every few months! Even better, we get 1/32 releases we don't even hear about until they are up on e-bay!

Like the McDonald's commercials, "I'm lovin' it!"
