New FOV 1:72

Flying Mule has some new FOV 1:72 items up for pre-order (planned release June 2008) including a Sdkfz 251 with 8 troops and a Pak-40 gun, and a Panzer IV with side skirts, both look very nice in the pics. This is good news for 1:72 fans.

There's a good chance these will be available at Target and TRU stores as well. The 1:72 Sherman with troops and Tiger with troops sets, plus the Dragon Wagon, Landing Craft, King Tiger, Tiger I etc. were all available at Target and TRU stores in my AO.

Yes your rite they will possibly show up in those stores. But I was talking about the Enthusiast Edition versions which they only sell in Hobby Town that Ive seen.

OK Jagd.... I don't know... I must have missed something, I was not aware that there was such a thing as an Enthusiast Edition in 1:72...only 1:32...

I didn't realize that there are enthusiast editions of 1/72 as well as 1/32. That's two of us ostketten....

Well I mean take for example the Dragon Wagon the one in Hobby Town was all weathered up and cost a little more. And the ones in TRU was just like the action series. So I no it doesn't say enthusiast edition but its like that.

The two versions are identical with the exception of the weathering. The action series available at large chain stores like Target, Meijer, Walmart and Toys R Us have no weathering. The enthusiast series available from smaller companies like hobby shops and internet retailers have weathering.

If you can weather them yourself then you will save some money since the action series costs less.

I have never seen these at any Wal Mart- the FOV 1/72s. I haven't even seen them at a TrU but there is only one in my aop. Right across the street from a Target. I have seen them at the hobby shop down the street (there is really only one, very busy- street) though but never noted any differences. I would probably buy the PzIV-H because Dragon is waiting for me to die before they put one out.

So presumably the ones sold by Flying Mule etc. will be weathered..?? If so, they represent an outstanding value for what they are selling them for.

Occasionally, you can find the weathered 1:72 pieces at mass retail. Weathered versions of the Abrams, T-72, Churchill and Sherman recently showed up at one of my local TRUs. Its probably a fluke, but Unimax seems to release Enthusiast versions of their vehicles to mass retail more often than not.

I am very excited about the Panzer IV in 1:72 as it is sorely missed, despite being the most numerous of the German tanks in WWII. I also like the fact that the vehicle - because is made by FOV - will have a commander figure in the hatch. Figures, to me, add alot to a model in any scale

I found an enthusiast Stug III and Matilda at a Wal Mart several years ago, Haven't seen any FOV there since.

True enough. I recently picked up an FOV 1:32 Schwimmer at TRU for $9.99 and there is no doubt whatsoever that this was an enthusiast, even though it was in the action style box, it was nicely weathered and included the collectors card and all the accessories you would expect to find with the enthusiast version. This is a phenomenom I'm familiar with for FOV's 1:32 line, but I've never seen it with their 1:72 stuff at my area Target or TRU stores, but I'm going to have to start paying closer attention to the 1:72 stuff when I'm in there.

Yeah, at first I didn't think anything of it, then I looked closely and thought the Abrams and T-72 had a bit more weathering than I recalled on the same tanks I usually saw at Target. Turns out they did
